2020.10.21 14:48 Slayer_Tip UFC 254 Fight Predictions

Hello!
I hope everyone is doing well!
I'm posting this early because I know everyone has been waiting for this event. People who I know don't watch UFC, know of this event. Its spooky.
This is a very long post. I sincerely apologise if it's too long.
(c) - Champ
(D) - Debut
NS - No Streak
FWS - Fight Win Streak
FLS - Fight Lose Streak
(#x) - Rank in Division
Lets freakin go!
Prelims
Lightweight
Joel Alvarez (17-2-0, 2 FWS) v Alexander Yakovlev (25-10-1, NS) - Alvarez is one of the tallest lightweights on the roster, and with that substantial length, comes a natural ability to cover distance and land kicks from a distance. Now, I am well aware that both Alvarez and Yakovlev are the same height, but from what I could see, Alvarez has better utilization of kicks and forward movement, because in most cases he can cover more distance moving forward than his opponents can retreat moving backwards. His long legs allow him to be quite defensive off this back, having 7 triangle submissions, 3 guillotine submissions and a bunch of other submissions mixed in, it’s very clear to me that Alvarez has an advantage on the ground against most of his opponents, and with a finish rate of 100%, including two knockouts, he is a threat on both the feet and on the ground. He is still relatively new in the UFC though and has yet to find an opponent that can match him on the ground. Yakovlev is coming in with a substantial amount of experience and wisdom, he has faced some incredibly elite fighters, including Maia, Usman and Zak Cummings. The only downside to his experience is the losses attached to those fights. He has lost 5 out of his 8 fights in the UFC, albeit all against tough opponents. Yakovlev has an interesting style, he isn’t the cleanest striker, but he sets up trips and takedowns from his striking. He is very strong and it looks like he always effortlessly takes down his opponents. It is clear to me though that Yakovlev is past his prime, and I feel like Alvarez will be far better than him on the ground, especially off his back. I can see Yakovlev going for a takedown and then Alvarez traps him in a triangle or armbar. Very interesting matchup between some very long and lengthy fighters.

Catchweight (140)
Casey Kenney (15-2-1, 2 FWS) v Nathaniel Wood (17-4-0, NS) - I love some Kenney action. Kenney has shown up and proven to us once again this year that his varied skill set and nonstop action style is going to be an issue for any opponent he faces. He’s an exceptionally fast striker who utilises excellent head movement and traps in order to successfully counter his opponent. During his fight against Alateng Heili, it was an incredibly dominant performance, but not only because of his striking acuity, but because of his movement, he’s always moving forward, always giving off pressure and always making sure that he fires something, whether it be a body kick (which is extremely effective in this bout) or a leg kick, he always gauged distance by a kick, then when his opponent chooses to strike, that’s when his boxing comes in, those slick head movement and counters are beautiful to watch. Wood has only had one major setback and that was against Dodson, which is a fair setback all things considered because Dodson is a beast. Wood is great on the ground, winning his first 3 UFC fights by submission. I feel like if Wood has any advantage in this fight, it’s on the ground, he’s going to need to avoid the kicks to the body from Kenney, either by getting too close for a shin/foot to land, or catch the body kick and go from there, either way, he cannot outstrike Kenney. I don’t really have that much to say, most of my attention is on Kenney, if he can avoid the takedowns or any grappling attempt from Wood, and keep it on the feet, then Kenney has this.
Kenney via UD
Women’s Flyweight
Liana Jojua (8-3-0, NS) v Miranda Maverick (D) (7-2-0, 5 FWS) - This is an interesting one. Jojua is obviously great on the ground, but something tells me she’s still relatively unrefined everywhere else. Her striking isn’t incredibly great and could ultimately be improved upon. Jojua is relatively new in the UFC, having a 1-1 record in the organisation, she’s still finding her footing and as long as she can still improve on her striking and keep up with her excellent grappling, I feel like she’s got a chance to make some strides, but at the moment, due to her inexperience in the UFC it’s hard to tell how great she is. Maverick is apparently a very hot prospect, 23 years old, started fighting at a young age, won the Invicta Flyweight Tournament, everything is looking exceptional for Maverick and that’s all I feel like I can say at the moment, because as you know I predict based off their performances in the UFC, but judging from her accolades so far in her combat sports career, she’s got an insanely bright future ahead of her. She was meant to be in the UFC a few months ago, but had to pull out of her debut due to injury. I hope that injury is no longer lingering around because frankly I'm excited for this one.
Maverick via UD
Light Heavyweight
Da Un Jung (13-2-0, 12 FWS) v Sam Alvey (33-14-0, 4 FLS) - Why is Alvey still around? Surely he’s very close to either hanging them up or getting booted. Jung is on a very, very strong streak right now and for very good reasons, he’s insanely powerful and well rounded. He only has one decision win, the rest have been devastating knockouts by way of incredible power. I believe he is only 26 years old as well (Sherdog better fix its shit) which is great because he’s got a few years of glory ahead of him if he keeps up these exceptional performances. His pressure and that right cross during his fight against Rodriguez was absolutely beautiful and one very big reason to keep an eye on him. It’s very possible that Jung can be the next star from South Korea. Alvey on the other hand seems absolutely finished. In all four of his last fights, he hasn’t shown any bit of improvement or care. I mean I know he cares but he just looks like he’s given up. His cardio is gone, he’s not as fast as he used to be and he keeps facing younger and hungrier fighters. Alvey has always been fairly well rounded and extremely experienced in the octagon but all those battles and losses are adding up, and even though he’s only 34, he’s been through twice as many fights as most people at that age. I don’t see Alvey being much of a threat in this fight, my attention will be solely on Jung, but I do sincerely hope Alvey turns up and gets to work because it’s sad to see such a great person get obliterated time after time by the younger generation. I have Jung on this.
Jung via KO R1
Welterweight
Alex Oliveira (22-8-1, 2 FWS) v Shavkat Rakhmonov (D) (#1 Kazakhstan) (12-0-0, 12 FWS) - A very interesting debut. Oliveira has been fighting in the UFC for quite some time now, he’s consistently been entertaining and dangerous at the same time. Despite the fact that he hasn’t won via finish in quite a while, he has changed his pace a little bit, he has become far more methodical and patient with his striking, and that’s pretty dangerous. He has the tendency to lure his opponents towards him, with his arms down, portraying that he doesn’t have any defences, then once his opponents are about to lunge an attack, he hits with a cross or a jab and backs them up fairly quickly. He loves taking risks and perhaps that’s why he was on that relatively tough three fight losing streak. His style is very hard to read and that can be tricky for his opponents to gauge what he’s going to do next, but that’s what makes him such a dangerous opponent. Rakhmonov is an undefeated prospect coming from Kazakhstan, and with a record of 12-0, you’d think that it was probably an easy journey, but no, looking over his opponents record, he has faced legitimate fighters who are pretty dangerous and he has easily handed them defeats. Rakhmonov is a dangerous, well rounded fighter who has heavy punches and a very slick ground game, which makes this match up perfect for him because Oliveira has been through the ringer when it comes to competition and if anyone can handle a young, tough, talented newcomer it’s him. Ill be keeping an eye out for Rakhmonov during his debut, he could very well be a serious issue for many welterweights coming into this, but he needs to get past Oliveira first. This is a tough one, and one that i’m not incredibly confident in predicting. I got Oliveira on this one, but boy is that a hard prediction to make.
Oliveira via KO R3
Heavyweight
Stefan Struve (29-12-0, NS) v Tai Tuivasa (10-3-0, 3 FLS) - This is a fun one. Not necessarily a great one but it’s probably gonna be fun. Struve isn’t the greatest fighter in the world, and I bet they’re going to show highlights that include the knockout against Stipe. Struve isn’t a striker, he can strike but he’s far better on the ground, because he’s just so long and his knowledge on the ground no doubt helps with his control on the ground. Now, I don’t know where he is at mentally because as far as I know, he retired, then came back, only to get his future kids murdered by Rothwells 500 kilo kicks. Maybe that’s a strategy that Tuivasa can use because really I can’t see Tuivasa winning this. Speaking of which, Tuivasa has had a horrible time in the UFC, despite being a larger than life character, he has always, always struggled with grapplers, so the rule of thumb whenever i predict for Tuivasa is “If he’s facing a grappler, he’s gonna lose” and i'm gonna stick to that until he shows us that his ground game has drastically improved. The one thing Tuivasa has is incredible power, akin to Mark Hunt, which doesn’t surprise me because they’re both similar in terms of frame and how they throw their powerful punches. Struve is very hittable, he’s a standing punching bag just ready to be destroyed and Tuivasa knows that. I’m pleasantly surprised that the predictors on tapology have this fight going 48/52, near even, that’s a rare thing to see and it confirms what I think about this fight, Tuivasa is either going to win by a knockout or lose by submission. I think he’s going to lose by submission, or on a more positive note, Struve will win via submission.

Main Card
Light Heavyweight
Magomed Ankalaev (#11) (13-1-0, 4 FWS) v Ion Cutelaba (15-5-0, NS) - This is a long awaited rematch that we all wanted to see. There isn’t really too much technical talk behind this other than two titans in the Light Heavyweight Division doing whatever it takes to dismantle and destroy their opponent before our very eyes, this sport is pretty beautiful isn’t it? Ankalaev is one of the most dangerous strikers in the Light Heavyweight division in terms of power alone, he explodes when he fights, everything he throws has the intent to finish his opponent. It was very clear to me during his first fight with Cutelaba that Cutelaba was not ready for any sort of heat coming his way, all talk no action. It was actually odd seeing Cutelaba “stunned”, if he put it on to fake-out Ankalaev, he failed because he ate a few chunky head kicks which he no doubt got hurt from, and whilst the finish was premature, it was clear to me from the get go that Ankalaev was going to win. Cutelaba is a juggernaut of a man with crazy power in his hands. He has huge knockout wins over Khalil Rountree Jr., Gadzhimurad Antigulov and Henrique da Silva, and whilst they’re not the biggest names in the division, his power and ability to land huge, clean shots is nothing short of beautiful. Cutelaba is a dangerous man, but perhaps not as dangerous as Ankalaev. Cutelaba’s main weaponry is his punches and elbows, he has a clean boxing style and can get a little wild and wacky sometimes. Ankalaev on the other hand has a wide range of kicks and punches that he can use to pick apart Cutelaba. I got Ankalaev on this one. I’d be pleasantly surprised if Cutelaba can take this fight seriously and get a win, but I think Ankalaev is more composed and well versed to get it done.
Ankalaev via KO R1
Women’s Flyweight
Lauren Murphy (#8) (13-4-0, 3 FWS) v Liliya Shakirova (D) (#4 China) (8-1-0, 3 FWS) - Shakirova is coming in as a late replacement I believe, so she may not be fully prepared coming into this bout. Murphy has always been a fighter that i’ve doubted time after time, and each time i doubted her, she impressed me and no doubt a whole lot of other people, she’s a dangerous fighter in this division and for very good reason. She’s gritty with her striking and just very strong with her wrestling. She has strong striking but not necessarily a clean striking game, her punches land with power and even though she gets hit, she’s always moving forward, ready to trade once again. The great thing about Murphy is that despite being over 36 (the age where we see a natural decline in most fighters' performance) she;s still a very dominant fighter and there’s really no sign of her slowing down. Shakirova is probably ill prepared, she’s probably only going to be focusing on the weight cut, there really isn’t that much that you can prepare for in a short time span. All that aside though, Shakirova seems like a very strong striker, I haven’t heard of her before this week, I was expecting to write about Calvillo so i’m very ill prepared for this side of the prediction, so I need to make a rough prediction without knowing what Liliya is capable of, other than her striking prowess. I trust that Murphy will be ready for anything that Liliya has to offer.

Middleweight
Phil Hawes (D) (#4 US West) (8-2-0, 4 FWS) v Jacob Malkoun (D) (4-0-0, 4 FWS) - A double debut on a main card? Interesting. Hawes is coming from the same gym that Usman trains out of, so you just know that he’s going to look insane, I mean, standing at 6 ft tall with a reach of 77.5 inches, he’s going to be dangerous at range. None of his fights have ever gone to the third round, he has 6 first round finishes and he only just started fighting 6 years ago. Very little is known about Malkoun other than his height and where he’s from. He only has 4 fights in his career so he’s coming into the UFC very green which is a bit of a worry, maybe the UFC see’s something in him that I don’t, but either way, I don’t see him being an issue for someone like Hawes. There is simply not enough information about Malkoun to go off on. This is a relatively short prediction I know, but there’s just not enough to talk about here. I got Hawes on this one.
Hawes via KO R1
Heavyweight
Alexander Volkov (#7) (31-8-0, NS) v Walt Harris (#10) (13-8-0, NS) - A great fight on paper. Volkov is one of the best volume based heavyweight strikes in the UFC, he has exceptional power in his hands and the amount of volume he throws simply doesn’t make sense, I mean, the dude throws volume and power at insane speeds, but doesn’t seem to get really tired. Volkov has beautiful boxing, he throws combos, then moves to throw more. He just swarms his opponent with punches, overwhelming their senses and making them completely unable to respond in between strikes. The only freak loss that Volkov has been at the butt end of was when Lewis threw that hail mary that completely shut down Volkov, and that could very well happen when he fights Harris this weekend. The other issue with Volkov is his takedown defence. Blaydes toyed with him, tossing him around like a ragdoll for 5 rounds straight… Unless Volkov has drastically improved on his wrestling, then that gives Harris another thing to target, even though Harris isn’t known for his takedown and wrestling capabilities. Harris is coming off a tough loss against Overeem from earlier this year, it broke my heart to see him lose, but he has the mental toughness that comes from being a fighter, and he’s back for more action. Harris is well known for his one shot knockout power. He is incredibly powerful and has bricks for hands, and if they land cleanly, that’s it for the fight, it’s over. Unfortunately, that’s all Harris has to offer, his punches, anything else is mildly mediocre (unless he has worked on things). I can only see this fight going two ways. Either Volkov gets hit by a punch originating from the ninth circle of hell, or Volkov utilises movement to disrupt the pattern of Harris’s strikes, and just overwhelm him with volume over 3 rounds or even knock him out in the later rounds. I’m leaning on Volkov on this one, but it’s very possible for Harris to land the sledgehammer and sleep Volkov.
Volkov via KO R3
Co-Main event
Middleweight
Robert Whittaker (#2) (21-5-0, NS) v Jared Cannonier (#4) (13-4-0, 3 FWS) - This is the toughest fight for me to predict by far. Whittaker has faced the gauntlet when it comes to top tier middleweight fights in the current era. His rise to fame started back in 2016 when he defeated Brunson in spectacular fashion in front of tens of thousands of fellow Aussies, he then faced Jacare Souza and outstruck him 55-9, shortly afterwards came the legendary fight against Yoel Romero, the boogeyman of the division. Over 10 rounds, Whittaker tactically and brutally fought and defeated Romero via points, that’s 50 minutes of hell. His only slip up since then has been against Adesanya, but we all know that Adesanya is an anomaly at the moment, a protagonist in his own anime. Whittakers return earlier this year against Till was nerve wracking moment but we saw a return to his roots, his methodical blitzes and kicks, his small feints before leading in with a strong 3 punch combo, it was a great thing to see as a Whittaker fan (as you know that I very much am). Whittaker has always been masterful at gauging range and distance. He plans where to step in to lead a blitz, and even though we haven’t seen too much wrestling from him, he’s still an elite level wrestler who I feel will need to utilise his wrestling coming into this fight because Cannonier is no doubt one of the hardest hitting middleweights in the division. Whittaker is most likely going to be incredibly patient coming into this, he might even rely on his counters to stop the forward momentum that Cannonier has in limitless supply. Cannonier is the dark horse of the division. I know that’s been said by absolutely everyone and their mute dog, but for someone to come down from Heavyweight, and succeed like he has in the Middleweight division? That shits insane. Cannonier has excellent power, his hand speed and striking accuracy (51% in the UFC) is incredible. Now, i’m not too sure how accurate that striking accuracy number is, I got it from ufcstats and normally that shits auto-calced but either way, we saw how great his striking is against Hermansson, Silva and Branch, but Whittaker is far above those three names and it’s going to be interesting to see how Cannonier can handle the evasiveness of Whittaker. Cannonier is coming in at a 4 inch reach advantage so it’s very possible for Cannonier to catch Whittaker blitzing in, but it’s just so hard to tell what Whittaker has planned. This is an insanely interesting fight, and I am not super confident in making this pick because of the volatility surrounding this fight and both fighters. I’m going with Whittaker on this one.
Whittaker via UD
Main Event
Lightweight Championship bout
Khabib Nurmagomedov (c) (28-0-0, 28 FWS) v Justin Gaethje (#2) (22-2-0, 4 FWS) - I’m not gonna make any new friends making this prediction… I’ve thought about this for a very long time, for about a year now actually, even before Gaethje defeated Ferguson (which i also predicted correctly), well… here we go. Nurmagomedov is one of the most dominant fighters the MMA world has ever seen. We all know how Nurmagomedov works, he’s a profoundly great wrestler who is a master of control. For all of his life, he has dominated his opponents, but let's take a quick little look over his opponents, you’ll see what i'm trying to say very soon. For shortness sake, i’m starting from Barboza, who isn’t a grappler, he then defeated Iaquinta, who also isn’t a grappler, He destroyed McGregor (despite being hit a few times, keep that in mind), then lastly Poirier, who isn’t a grappler (but does have a few solid fights where he dominated with his takedowns). What i’m trying to convey isn’t that the UFC have set Khabib up for success, because those are some high level names, the best of the best, but they’re not Gaethje. Gaethje is what Israel Adesanya is in Lightweight, he’s a fighter who has completely blown every expectation out of the water with a nuke, and it’s not purely Gaethje that makes that success happen, its Trevor Wittman, the coach is a whetstone sharpening their fighter, and boy are Wittman and Gaethje a match made in MMA heaven. There are a few things that fighters who have faced Khabib feel, one of those things is fear, that first round, that very first takedown attempt sets the pace for the rest of the fight, no matter how long the fight goes, Khabibs strength frightens opponents, but Gaethje thrives on that fear, he loves it. People argue that we haven’t seen Gaethje wrestle, I simply say this. We don’t need to see Gaethje wrestle, to know if he’s going to win or not. MMA is more than wrestling, just because Khabib is a great wrestler, doesn’t mean he’s going to defeat Gaethje. If anyone is going to defeat Khabib, it’s Gaethje. Gaethje might not win, this is MMA after all and we are talking about Khabib fuckin Nurmagomedov, but if anyone has a solid plan in defeating Khabib, it’s Wittman. This is probably the most controversial prediction i’ll ever make this year. I might get this wrong, Khabib could very well win, and it would be well deserved, so let me say this one last thing before I end this post. The first round is the most important. Every opponent Khabib fought, breaks in the first round. The first round will decide what happens in the next rounds.
Gaethje via KO R3
And that's it!
Don't be surprised if i get some picks wrong this weekend, it's a very tough card to predict, and that's why i love doing these, being wrong can sometimes be the best moments when watching a fight.
If you wish to support me please message me and i can provide details on how you can do so.
If you would like to follow me on twitter, you can find me @Slayer_Tip or if you want, add me on discord and we can have a super friendly chat about all things MMA: Slayertip#7013
Lets have a fun discussion down below, let me know if you agree/disagree with my picks :)
Much love to all, i'm still trying to figure out a date where I can take a week off because im a tiny bit tired, so i'll need to see which card I can skip because this one card a week stuff is brutal.
Until this weekend ;) o/

garen katarina head canon shipper imagine katarina is some feminine soft delicate face girl
just listen to katarina's voice, her voice is a tough and muscular woman voice.
and if you look at her face, it's sharp and smart looking, with red make ups, she looks like a Tai transgender, she doesn't look like a normal soft face feminine delicate woman at all.
a good example of feminine girls would be " lux, ahri, sona, sephirne"
katarina's personality is also not feminine. her voice lines and lores all shows she is tough and violent.
head canon shippers' imagination about garen is extremism too. if garen is ugly then darius wouldn't call him pretty boy.

with such big head, no wonder the head canon shippers think everything, from interactions to sharing dinners and sharing secrets, is romance.
To them, friends all date and sleep each other.

2020.10.18 19:21 OhMyGodBearIsDriving I thought this might be a fun post: Films you like more or interpreted differently after starting your practice?

spoiler warning for those who care. I know it's an older movie, but still
I was thinking about this yesterday because a friend of mine mentioned the movie Clueless.
I loved that movie growing up as a girl in the 90s and it occured to me that I have a different view of it now than I would have had then.
I know it's a fun and silly movie, but I feel like that makes it even more fun to think about it in a philosophical way. It has some surprisingly serious lessons in it considering.
I see a lot of what Cher learns in the movie as being about letting go of control and learning to let people and situations be. She starts the movie being pretty obsessive with the matchmaking and just generally having a stranglehold of her life and image. Eventually, though, her desire to control others results in a series of painful back-fires and she has to come to terms with who people actually are and that reality is what it is.
Example of what I mean: She becomes obsessed with a boy from school. She thinks she sets up all the right circumstances to show him she's a perfect woman. She's meticulous about their first date and trying to seduce him. The whole time, though, it's worthless because he's actually gay. She just had no idea.
In another part of the movie she tries to set up her friend Tai, who she spent a lot of time and effort trying to make-over from being a little more awkward and outside-of-the-norm, with the "perfect" man for her. She thinks she does everything right and manipulates the circumstances just so, but everything falls apart. It turns out the boy she was trying to set her up with wanted Cher and also was just not a great person.
Her efforts at matchmaking and making reality just how she wants it don't always fail (the two teachers she set up get married at the end of the film), but watching it again as an adult I realize an overall lesson of the movie I missed was how important it was for Cher to realize she couldn't make everyone be who she wanted and everything be what she asked for. This ends up being good because she ends up in a situation she would have never wanted before at the end and realizes it's better than what she tried to force.
I had a lot of fun thinking about this yesterday and thought it might be fun to hear if any of you had similar takes on movies you grew up with or really just any movie that you see differently because of your practice. It's something I hadn't really thought of before.

2020.10.17 23:04 GrandEmperessVicky What if Ruby was the one with the Bullying and Training Arcs (The 'Jauncie' Arc), back in Volume One?

So I just realised that instead of Pyrrha training Jaune - she could train Ruby.

Boom!

The main character gets some agency and Pyrrha has purpose early on, outside of 'The Love Interest'.

If CRWBY wanted to keep the whole idea of 'Ruby is shit without Crescent Rose', then they could have had Pyrrha train her in hand-to-hand combat (I was thinking a kickboxer style as a foil to her sister - would make an awesome Enabler Team Attack). Yang tried to teach her and failed because she didn't have the patience for that - she doesn't come off as teacher material anyway.

I have an in-universe explanation too, which helps with world building:
For Glynda's Combat Class you have an Armed Combat grade and Unarmed Combat grade.
Your overall Grade is determined by weight-class and (unstressed) Aura level.
The grades are collected after a test and then your average grade is made.
If your Unarmed Combat grade is poor, then your overall grade is capped.

Ruby skipped 2 whole school years.

No matter what you're studying - that kind of gap makes catching up incredibly difficult.

It wouldn't be unreasonable to believe that she hadn't reached that part of her education at Signal. She's a weapons enthusiast, and her family members are teachers at her school. She could have convinced Qrow or Tai to let her start with weaponry first and unarmed training afterwards but missed out because of her early enrollment. Besides I am sure there are people in real-life who find Weapon styles easier to learn than hand-to-hand. As a result, she does poorly in Glynda's test. She can do poorly in other lessons too because again, she skipped 2 years.

That's where Pyrrha comes in.

She sees herself in Ruby after learning about her early enrollment and prodigy status. They are already similar to each other: prodigies who have a lot of expectations on their shoulders and struggle with the burden of carrying those expectations. They fear disappointing/failing their mentors/friends and will go to great lengths - boarding on self harm - to do their duty as Huntresses. They will probably understand each other better than anyone else (sans Weiss - but she is trying to get away from her authority figure). She offers to tutor Ruby in unarmed combat, having a lot more pateince than Yang. Then she, JNR and WBY would set up a study group for them to help Ruby and each other (so they behave like actual friends).

Now Pyrrha has an actual relationship with Ruby (and the rest of Team RWBY), which would make her death much more impactful and Ruby has an actual reason to unlock her Silver Eyes.

Bonus For Shipping: Ruby would sooner fawn over Milo and Akouo than over Pyrrha. She wouldn't care about her Invincible Girl status, which is what Pyrrha found so attractive about Jaune, even though he continuously puts her on a pedestal. He says so before her speech telling him how she hates that and likes how he doesn't do that. If Ruby was in that scene she could be like:

"You don't have a date?!"
Pyrrha nods looking at the youngster with a muted sadness. As if she was... used to it. Ruby's head shook, silver eyes wide as she tried to comprehend the concept of a girl like Pyrrha not having a date, at all.
"But your the coolest and sweetest girl like... ever!"
Nikos turned away to stare at the Beacon Campus. The youngster swore that she saw a red tint to her cheeks,
"How does that happen?!"
Ruby pauses.
"Don't tell Yang I said that, by the way."
Pyrrha giggles, "I'll think you'll be safe, for tonight."
Ruby dramatically sighs in relief. Pyrrha's giggles turn into chuckles and soon both red-heads were holding their stomachs, laughing hard.

Do you see the potential, here?

If they want LGBTQ representation, they could've done it with these two or keep them as super close besties (but no ship teasing; let the fans do that to themselves).

Pyrrha can have her character development early and outside of being 'Jaune's Love Interest'. She could have something like an overbearing parent who forces her to maintain the image of the 'Invincible Girl' and she - with Ruby & Co's help - slowly breaks out of this mould. The closeness between the two means there is a chance that Pyrrha could befriend Penny (again - another death that will be impactful for the audience and the character).

Now, with the Training Arc going to the main character (as it should have done), what will happen to Jaune?

Simple.

Nothing!

Absolutely NOTHING!

RWBY (at the time) was 5-10 minutes per episode and the Volume structure (15 episodes per Volume) meant only a few episodes to get things done. We literally don't have time for side characters. Our focus in the First Volume should be on the title characters and the side characters should have a much smaller role (save for Pyrrha since she has agency in later volumes). We could focus on the others in Volumes 2, 3 etc; when there is less time constraints and a bigger budget.

"Who would be the audience surrogate?" I hear you ask.

Another question with a simple answer:

Ruby Rose.

All they had to do is pull a Harry Potter.

I cannot stress this enough -
SHE SKIPPED 2 YEARS OF HER EDUCATION AND IS DOING AN ADVANCED COURSE. THAT IS THE SAME AS SENDING A YEAR 11 STUDENT TO SIT THEIR A-LEVEL EXAMS (the US equivalent to a SAT exam)

The character Monty built was perfect material for an audience surrogate. Make her just clueless enough to be reasonable but not to the extent of Jaune (who ever thought that was a good idea clearly doesn't know how to write a believable character in a fantasy setting - he knows nothing in the beginning; even things that should have been common knowledge in a world like Remnant. They literally host tournaments that use Aura levels to gauge who wins/loses in a match and tournaments are an activity that the whole world comes together to watch like, the Olympics/ FIFA World Cup).

Jaune should have been a decent fighter - good enough to get into Beacon but he is pretty trash in general. His family were warriors, it would make sense he got trained by them. Pyrrha still unlocks his aura but he understands the vague concepts of it. His education, like Ruby's, was mainly combat based so he doesn't know much.

Or Ozpin allowed him into Beacon with his fake transcripts, His intention was to use him as a meat puppet (calls back to Pyrrha's comment about his Aura level).

The Bullying Arc (Jaundice) should have also gone to Ruby. Jaune, while kind of dopey, has no real reason to be picked on now. Ruby's social awkwardness makes her the perfect target for bullies in real life. Her position as the youngest leader in Beacon's recent history, as the wielder of one of the most 'deadly weapons ever designed', and her sister's insistence to be more independent; would make good reasons why she would want to deal with it on her own/not tell anyone she's being bullied. By the end she stands up for herself, gaining a bit more self-confidence and trusts her team more. Perhaps through this arc, Weiss understands why Ozpin picked Ruby over her, finding newfound respect for her and their friendship wouldn't be so damn fast that Adam chopping Yang's arm off was slower.

(You could have a end credit scene of Yang, Pyrrha and Nora cornering Cardin and Russell in a locker room. The next scene would be Pyrrha walking into Ozpin's office with her scroll out recording Yang and Nora with the boys in their arms. The duo then chuck Cardin and Russel out the window and tell Oz they'll be in detention tomorrow. He is speechless and calls for Glynda once they leave. They go to the library, Blake asks "is it done?" and they smile looking at a bickering Weiss and Ruby and upload the video to Scroll Tube.)

Back to Juane with the meat puppet idea: He could be Ozpin's next meat-puppet instead of Oscar. All the emotional trauma of losing his friend is still there. It would be an interesting conflict to have the man Jaune believes is responsible for his partnefriends death, trapped in his head and is taking over his body. Jaune slowly loses his personality and autonomy - everyone can see it, but no one says anything because the thought of their friend dying from the inside out is terrifying.

This will also reduce the bloating problem the show has with it's characters.

Another alternative is that he could be the one to die on Beacon Tower - fulfilling his dream of becoming a hero as he manages to stop Cinder from discovering the relic. His sacrifice would give the others more time to regroup and save Haven without the hindrance of one of the relics being in the enemy's hands. Cinder has a cemented rivalry with both Pyrrha and Ruby now. That way either confrontation, resulting in Cinder's certain death, would be satisfying. Pyrrha (or Ruby) get the Maiden powers and the playing field is becoming even for our heroes.

Can anyone add anything to this AU? I would love to hear some opinions (constructive ones please).

Also - don't mistake me diminishing Jaune's role in Volume One is me removing him entirely or making him irrelevant. A lot of people thinks that's what I am doing and it's not. These are undeveloped concepts I made within an hour.

2020.10.17 05:10 GrandEmperessVicky What if the Bully and Training Arcs went to Ruby instead?

So I just realised that instead of Pyrrha training Jaune - she could train Ruby.

Boom!

The main character gets some agency and the hyped up side character has purpose early on outside of 'Love Interest'.

If CRWBY wanted to keep the whole idea of 'Ruby is shit without Crescent Rose', then they could have had Pyrrha train her in hand-to-hand combat (I was thinking a kickboxer style as a foil to her sister - would make an awesome Enabler Team Attack). Not Yang because she didn't have the patience for that - she doesn't come off as teacher material anyway.

I have an in-universe explanation too, which helps with world building:
  1. For Glynda's Combat Class you have an Armed Combat grade and Unarmed Combat grade.
  2. Your overall Grade is determined by weight-class and (unstressed) Aura level.
  3. The grades are collected after a test and then your average grade is made.

She's a weapons enthusiast, and her family members are teachers at her school - she could have convinced Qrow or Tai to let her start with weaponry first and unarmed training afterwards but missed out because of her early enrollment.

They are already similar to each other: prodigies who have a lot of expectations on their shoulders and struggle with the burden of carrying it and fear disappointing/failing their mentors/friends and will go to great lengths - boarding on self harm - to do their duty as Huntresses. They will probably understand each other better than anyone else (sans Weiss - but she is trying to get away from her authority figure). She offers to tutor her in unarmed combat to get her grade up. Then she, JNR and WBY would set up a study group for them to help her and each other (so they behave like actual friends).

Pyrrha can have her character development early and outside of being 'Jaune's Love Interest' for most of her screen time. Something like [an] overbearing parent[s] who forces her to maintain the image of the 'Invincible Girl' and she - with Ruby and friends' help - slowly breaks out of this mould.

2020.10.15 21:41 po-kii It still kind of baffles me that you can’t date Nicky or Seb in S3.

Okay so I know this has been beaten like a dead horse but hear me out.
First off, it seems like Seb is a HUGE favorite amongst this subreddit. And I can see why. I just finished S3, and after browsing other rant posts and discussions about how Fusebox missed the mark with the writing, it kind of dawned on me that the reason we all like him a lot is because he actually has a deeper character and personality than a lot of the S3 characters.
I know a huge complaint about S3 was that many characters just faded into the background and you would forget that they’re even there. Not to mention there were not as many interpersonal relationships amongst the islanders. So it felt very surface level. In my opinion many of them were easily forgettable and I did not give a rat’s ass about a lot of the cast. I even found myself pushing my finger on the phone screen faster just to get through the dialogue during the majority of the game, which is sad. I love visual novels as much as the next guy/gal but it was a drag for the most part.
Anyway, the reason we all like Seb so much is because he actually has character development from the beginning to the end of S3, and he has more to his personality than many of the other islanders. He starts out as this seemingly distant and moody type of guy that is your typical “Debbie Downer”, but in reality when you start to get to know him, he just has issues opening up to people and is a bit socially awkward (which is honestly very relatable to me, hence why I have a soft spot for him and was pretty upset that I couldn’t date him). I’m sure everyone can agree that they had the desire to be the one to help him open up and have a romance blossom from that (sorrynotsorry Genevieve 😔) It’s weird to me that Fusebox would bar you from romancing one of the only characters that they put actual time and effort into developing the most. It’s almost like a middle finger lol.
As for Nicky, I wasn’t as heartbroken that I couldn’t romance him closer to the end of S3 only because the narrative drilled the whole “you’re like my sister” schtick into my head (which was an extreme boner killer so well-played, Fusebox). However it feels like a missed opportunity since the writing could have very well been a whole “friends to lovers” type thing. I really adore narratives like that where two characters only see each other as friends but then something more starts to blossom over time.
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad that Fusebox focused more on friendships as well during S3, and I thought that was sweet. But I was also upset that I couldn’t be best friends with some of the other islanders (like Tai or Yasmin because I really liked them a lot). Also having Nicky and Seb as best friends is nice even if you can’t romance them since they’re sweethearts. But again, my previous points still stand and it’s just weird to me 😂 Inb4 I do the work myself and write fanfiction where you actually end up with Seb/Nicky. Don’t test me, Fusebox. I can AND will make my own food that you failed to provide 🔪

2020.10.12 19:46 partypastor Unreached People Group of the Week - Turkish Cypriots of Cyprus

Sorry for the late post today guys, I had a busy morning. Meet the Turkish Cypriots of Cyprus!
How Unreached Are They?
Turkish Cypriots of Cyprus are 0.5% Christian. That means out of their 217,000 population, only maybe 1,000 of them are believers. To make that even more relatable, there is only 1 believer for every 200 unbelievers.
An extremely small number of the Turkish Cypriots are Christians. The Bible, Christian radio broadcasts, and the Jesus film are all available in the Turkish language. Strongly devoted to Islam, the Turkish Cypriots need much prayer and dedicated workers living among them so they will know that when they die, it is not how they live, but Who lives inside of them, that will bring them to heaven. Joshua Project
What are they like?
Typical qualification that all people groups can't be summed up in small paragraphs and this is an over generalization.
Most of the Turkish Cypriots live in rural villages and rely on agriculture and trade for their livelihood. The land primarily consists of fertile plains, the inhabitants of which are blessed with a favorable climate that nourishes lush vegetation. Crops include fruits, wheat, barley, carrots and other vegetables, tobacco, and green fodder. Men handle most of the agricultural chores, but during harvest time the whole family helps with the farming duties. Those who prefer an urban lifestyle can find homes and plentiful jobs in the towns.
The homes in Cyprus are typically made of wood or stone. They usually have two stories and flat roofs. Animals share the lower floor along with storage facilities. In single story houses, the women use the living room to work in during the day; at night it becomes the family's bedroom.
Cyprus's excellent educational system provides free elementary education, for at least three of the five-year secondary education program, and technical training. As a result, there is very little illiteracy on the island. There are actually six universities in North Cyprus where Turkish Cypriots reside. These universities bring in people from all over the Muslim world. As a result of these universities and other factors younger generations are speaking English more and more. English is spoken widely as a second language, and many older Cypriot Turks know Greek.
Thanks to the healthy climate and well-organized health services, the people are generally healthy and the island, as a whole, is free of major diseases such as malaria and tapeworm cysts.
Craftsmen skilled in calligraphy, ceramics, and metalwork help keep the Turkish culture alive in Cyprus. Rug weaving is also an important skill because rugs are part of the Islam prayer ritual. Girls and young women are responsible for weaving the beautiful rugs.
Marriage is important in a Muslim culture and Turkish Cypriot girls usually marry at a young age. Marriages are usually between close kin, even between first cousins. Such intermarriage is common in a Muslim culture because it helps keep wealth within the extended family.
The Turkish Cypriots are Caucasians; most have dark hair and brown eyes. They are known to be gentle, courteous, and hospitable to strangers. They are proud of their ethnic heritage and remain very loyal to Turkey. Joshua Project
History Lesson
The Turkish Cypriots live on the northern section of the island of Cyprus, located in the Mediterranean Sea, just south of Turkey. As the descendants of Turkish Ottoman invaders who conquered Cyprus in the 16th century, the Turkish Cypriot proudly maintain Turkish customs, traditions, and language (Turkish). Today, the Turkish Cypriots make up about one-fifth of the island's total population. Various estimates point out that at least half of the Turks in Northern Cyprus are settlers from Turkey who emigrated in the last 30 or 40 years.
The Greeks, who inhabit the remainder of the island, have been enemies of the Turks since the Ottoman invasion. Cyprus became an independent republic in 1960, a move that was supposed to end warfare between the Greeks and the Turks. However, the bitterness continued, and when war erupted again in 1963, the Greeks won economic control of the island.
Turkey invaded in 1974 and took control of the northern third of the island. Today, a border separates the two peoples, whose animosity has never allowed them to come to terms with one another. Joshua Project
What do they believe?
Almost all of the Turkish Cypriots are Muslims who practice Muslim ceremonies and follow Islamic beliefs. For example, they believe that death is the beginning of a new life; the dead person waits for resurrection to either heaven or hell, depending on the way he/she lived life on earth. They believe in the "evil eye," which is the power to harm someone just by looking at him. Joshua Project
How Can We Pray For Them?
Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for them is that they may be saved. (Romans 10:1)

2020.10.12 07:03 Combeeking1234567890 Digimon hates Sora

SPOILER FOR KIZUNA
Digimon hates Sora is what I thought when I finished Kizuna. Now when I say hate it has two meanings. The 1st hate is the "Sakura treatment. " She appears to be so useless to the story, but exists, so they have to have her around even when she doesn't do anything. The 2nd hate is they want her to be different so that she has "Character" compared to the others.
My evidence:
In Adventure 01 She was insecure that her crest was Love and that she had no love based on her relationship with her mother. -Did anyone else complain about their crest? No, they knew that it was apart of them and when it showed its true self their digimon would become even stronger. So even though she had a rough relationship with her mother she still could love. Heck she was the "Mom" of the group anyways so her ability to love was never in question except to herself. This is a case of the 2nd hate because she was the only one who had this issue. Joe didn't feel he wasnt reliable/sincere he knew he was and so did everyone else. His crest activated when he was true to himself. Same with Sora. My point is that digimon needed a conflict for her and it was so different from everyone else's it appeared out of place. -Also after her crest activates she does nothing of note afterwards.
In adventure 02: hhmm she talked about the digi egg of love.... she went of the world tour....thats about it. She wasn't around much. (Hate#1)
Our War Game: She a sub sub plot for Tai. Tai wants to apologize for something he did, she wasnt going to forgive him so he wrote her a letter which didn't send do to Diaboromon. She comes to his place to forgive him but desides not to. At no point is Biyomon used or needed because sub sub plot said Tai can't contact Sora. Omnimon wins and the message sends. She forgives Tai the end. Was she needed? Maybe...whats she used NO. DIgimon didn't want her. She got Sakura'd
Hurricane touchdown: All 01 kids taken out of movie in dub. She got captured....wooooo(sarcastic)
Revenge of Diaboromon: Was she even in it? Maybe I think she was shown to date Matt and stands around. I honestly don't remember.
Digimon Tri: Skip to movie 4.... she was useful! To show how their friendship was special as kids and when the digimon were rebooted they had to create that magical friendship again. it worked for everyone but her . This was needed because they all FEARED it would happen to all of them but alas it was just Sora....of coarse. Then when she resolves Just HER issue she gains HoHomon to fight in one fight where seraphimon shows up just cuz! Really earned that spotlight didnt we Sora?
Kizuna: The inspiration for this post: Sora was used in the sneakest way possible. She was shown to be loving her flower arranging. Which me personally I don't love but thats whatever. This showed early that she was more traditional and well mannered unlike that of an immature child. Matches the message of the movie which is OK. Then she's gone till the end where, subtle, she has LOST BIYOMON! DiGIMON HATeS SORA! Why would they not let the child of love not have a scene of her losing the one friend who showed her she could love! Ugh. It makes sense since she was so mature and would lose biyo before Tai and Matt but why so subtle! It would have been better for Mimi or Izzy they were so absorbed in other things that losing their friend would just "Happen" not Biyomon her bond with Sora is to important to be subtle. So at the end of it all 3 of the 01 kids lose digimon. Not Mimi the successful designer. Not izzy the president. Not TK or Kari the young ones. Not even JOE the literal 'im to busy" character. We give this lost to Sora.... ugh why does digimon hate her so much?
I really hope the 2020 Sora is BA and has a purpose she can't be Sakura'd again!
Sources: How I remember the English dub of Sora. A fresh watch of Kizuna.
Note: I understand that Sub may fix some issues I haven't seen the sub fully. Also this is my opinon.

2020.10.09 16:37 nadeirad E groasă în USR

Iosif Prodan, Facebook
Mă-ndoiesc că există oameni care au votat USR și acum după scandalurile astea se duc și votează PSD - show me the person who does that and I'll call him crazy.
No chance.
Nu-i chiar așa.
Că pentru mine n-are.
Are vreun sens?
Wake the fuck up! Then shut the fuck up, că nu muncește nimeni pentru tine în mod special. Vrei o schimbare?

2020.10.08 23:27 DPPGmon Gordon Freeman’s Journey in the DC Universe with the Omnitrix (some events are from the show but modified)

I woke up and got ready to go to my new school. I lived alone, I don’t remember what happened to my family, but they are gone. And I have been used to being alone, I didn’t have many friends and they are just decent. I didn’t have any good or best friends, but that didn’t bother me. I lived in a place called Jump City in the UK. My old home with my hometown Bellwood is gone, and it was all my fault. There is a group of five teens who live in Jump City, their names are Robin, Starfire, Cyborg, Raven, and Beast Boy. Robin wears a suit with a cape with weapons and gadgets, he is considered as the leader of the group. Starfire is an alien who has laser powers. Cyborg is a cyborg, half robot and half human. Raven is a human who is part demon. Beast Boy is a green human that can change into any animal. One day they were having a relaxing day at the park until this blue alien named Fasttrack appeared out of nowhere. The five teens got into a fighting stance and the blue alien didn’t want to fight. “Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa!” he shouted “I don’t want to fight you guys.” Cyborg said “You ruined a perfectly good day and besides how do we know if you are telling the truth.” “TITANS, GO!” Robin shouted. They all charged at him but he was very fast, so he ran out of the circle. Cyborg and Starfire started to shoot at him but Fasttrack was fast enough to react and dodge them all. But Raven came out of nowhere and shouted “Azarath Metrion Zinthos!” and created a wall but Fasttrack was able to turn around right before slamming to the wall. Beast boy turned into a cheetah and all of them were chasing Fasttrack. But he was ready so he ran up a tree and jumped behind them. “I am telling the truth” Fasttrack then slammed on his Omnitrix on his chest and turned back to human. “I’m not trying to harm you, I was just escaping,” I said. Robin said “Before we ask any questions, I think we should talk in a safer place.” Then we all went to their home/base, it was a small island in the middle of the city with a giant T. We entered the building and went to the lobby. I explained the whole story. “I received a device from outer space called the Omnitrix, there is an alien who has been trying to hunt down the Omnitrix. And his name was Vilgax, I was the only one who could stop him so I was trained to be ready for him. But when he arrived, I underestimated him and he overwhelmed me with his skills and powers. And not to mention his army, he has an army full of drones and robot troops. His troops planted bombs all over the city and I called his bluff.” I told them. Robin said “He wasn’t bluffing.” “Yeah, I learned that the hard way and now I have no more city to return to, and I don’t know if my friends and family survived since I haven’t seen them for a while before Vilgax arrived. Anyways, so I decided to run and not stop, not until he stops.” “But he won’t stop, in fact he will keep destroying cities after cities. Is that what you really want?” Cyborg asked. “I have no choice, I can’t stop, I’m sorry for maybe bringing him here, I will leave.” I started to walk out, Starfire put her hand over my shoulder, I stopped. She told me “You don’t have to do this alone, we can be your friends, and we can help.” “How?” Starfire answered, “We ---” “We are the Teen Titans!” Beast Boy shouted. I smiled, and said “Okay, let’s do this.” Then we were getting ready to plan out how to defeat him but he arrived in his giant ship. “Well, he is here and we don’t have a plan, what do we do?” Raven asked. Robin answered “We will wing it.” We bolted out the base and arrived at the area where Vilgax’s ship was flying over. A bunch of his troops and drones came dropping out of the ship ready to attack zooming towards us. Robin shouted “Titans, GO!” Everyone charged but me, I pressed a button on my Omnitrix which opened the disc and I turned it a couple of times until there was a silhouette of an alien with what looks like spiky hair. I slammed down on the Omnitrix and started to transform into an alien. Vines came out of the Omnitrix and started to cover my whole arm, then my other arm and my head and I shouted “Swampfire!” My transformation has been completed. I created fireballs out my hands and tossed towards the robots and a bunch of them got destroyed. The others were fighting as well, Robin was using his staff, Cyborg was punching them, Starfire was shooting them with her lasers, Raven was using her magic to destroy them, and Beast Boy was a rhino charging through them. When suddenly the bots changed their target to me and surrounded me. I threw some seeds which grew into vines that grabbed and crushed many drones, and I threw some more fireballs at the troops. But it wasn’t enough so I decided to press on the sides of my omnitrix then the disc popped out again and I slammed on it again. That’s when there was a cross that appeared on the end of the omnitrix, a ring of energy coming out of the omnitrix and covering my whole body. As it was covering, my body was changing as well until the ring went to the ends of my arms, legs, and head. I shouted “Ultimate Swampfire!” This was a bonus feature of my omnitrix, it will and can create evolved forms of my aliens by putting my alien species into a simulation of about a million years war to let it keep evolving to the ultimate form and that’s what I get. All of my aliens have that access. My power has increased a lot, my seeds have turned into bombs and my fire has become three times stronger blue flames. I also gain some new powers when I use ultimate, like for example as Ultimate Swampfire I can breathe underwater while regular Swampfire can’t. So I threw a bunch of seeds that grew into vines and grabbed a bunch of robots and the vines blew up. Then I blasted the rest of them with my stronger flames. I transformed back to human, and said “We need to get into the ship.” “I can, you guys are gonna have to stand close” Raven answered. So we all stood close together, and she created a black circle that was under us and raised her hands to cover the circle with a half sphere and it shrinked until it disappeared. Then in the ship the same half sphere grew out of nowhere until it was the same size as before and opened. We were on the ship face to face with Vilgax “Well, well, well, it looks like you made some new friends. It won’t help, not at ALL!” He shot laser beams from his eyes and everyone dodged it but it has a homing targeting system so it split up and started to chase Beast Boy and Starfire. They were moving as fast as they could, I rolled out the way and when I stopped, I transformed once again into Diamondhead and punched him, the laser stopped. He punched a lot harder which knocked me back. We fought for a while, and even with the others, he was very tough. But we figured how to defeat him, we combined our powers into a single attack, Robin threw one of his bombs towards Vilgax, Raven boosted the strength, Cyborg and Starfire shot their beams to make the explosion bigger, Beast Boy and me grabbed Vilgax so he couldn’t move. And he was knocked out quickly, Cyborg hacked his ship and sent it to a random place with no way to return by destroying Earth’s location. As a bonus, we set the ship to self-destruct. When we returned back to the Titan Base, they invited me to join the team and I accepted. As a gift they gave me a suit with a mask to cover my identity and a communicator called Titan Communicator or T-Communicator, as that moment I was known as Omnitrix based off of my watch. I really wanted to go back to school in order to have a part of a normal life, and the others accepted it and let me. So I registered into Jump City High School which had a dorm for some reasons. So I live there until breaks then I go back to the base. But I had to wait until the summer was over, being busy saving the day often kept me busy and the summer was over pretty fast but because of the summer, I became well known to be a part of the Teen Titans. I was very nervous for my first day of school but it went well because I met a girl named Emma. It was her first day at school as well. We had all the same classes so we became friends very quickly. Then after school we hung out at the dorms, since this was the first day at school, we were able to choose our roommates that night and it could be anyone you want as long as the other person wants that too. So me and Emma agreed to be roommates and because of that we were able to learn some stuff about each other. I clearly didn’t tell her about me and the Teen Titans. Later that night she woke me up, “I can’t sleep, I’m scared, nervous, and worried that school will get worse.” I told her “Don’t worry I got your back.” “Are you sure?” “Yes, I’m 10,000% sure” “Can you just lay next to me and hold me?” “I will.” So I laid down next to her and I opened my arms and she slid into my arms and I held her, I didn’t fall asleep at all. She didn’t either, and we didn’t say anything at all. We just laid there for a couple of hours, and by morning, she said that we need to get ready for school, so I let her go and got ready to go to school. Before I left her bed, she thanked me and told me that she felt so much better. At breakfast I couldn’t stop thinking about her, we were sitting at different tables, she wanted to make more friends and I did as well. I started to realize that I like her more than I thought I would. After a couple of days, she asked if we could talk, and I said sure. “After the first night, and you were willing to comfort me all night, although I said a simple thank you, I appreciate it wayyy more than you think. And I think because of that I really like you. I don’t know if you like me back or not, but that doesn’t matter, I just wanted you to know, that’s all.” She started to walk away, but I stood in front of her and told her “I really like you too because of that night as well.” and hugged her. She hugged back, and at that moment I got an alarm from the T-Communicator.
So I told her that I have to leave but I would see her tonight, and ran out and went to suit up and met up with the others at the base. Apparently something happened to Raven and she is being contacted by her father who was Trigon the ruler of hell. We found out that she became good to prevent her destiny of being the gate opener for Trigon into Earth. We tried to protect Raven but she sacrificed herself so we were protected but we weren’t giving up. We went after Raven to the gate, but she blocked us and freed Trigon. When she freed Trigon, the world immediately went into hell and everyone was turned into stone except us. Apparently when Raven blocked us, she also protected us like she had hope for us to be able to stop him. So we returned to the gate and Slade appeared, he was a villain that we thought that died. But Trigon freed him to do deeds, and went back on his words to fully revive Slade, so he wanted revenge but he needed to help us first for his own reasons. So we split up with Robin and Slade to go through the gate to find Raven again, and the rest of us keep Trigon busy. So we went to find him but it wasn’t hard since he made the Titan Tower into his chair. We found a small rock island that was broken from the tower and went to attack him from the island but he used his mystic powers to create evil clones of us. I was ready for my clone and he turned into Jetray who was a red beakless pterodactyl and the fastest flyer of my aliens. We charged at each other but I jumped over him and turned to Spidermonkey, pretty obvious, I shot a spider web at my clone and grabbed it and threw him into the lava, destroying my clone. Then I was falling into the lava myself but I transformed fast enough into Heatblast and started to blast fire at his face. “Ha, Ha, Ha, you really think that would hurt me?” He shouted. “You think I wouldn’t notice that with all that lava?” I transformed into Four Arms and punched him really hard which made him stumble back a bit. Then I landed on his left shoulder, and transformed into Fasttrack and ran across his back and arrived to his right shoulder. Transformed again into Diamondhead and shot some diamonds at his face and he was unfazed then I slammed on his shoulder and a giant diamond fist came out and punched him really hard. Then into Shocksquatch to create a giant discharge, he was unfazed but I transformed quickly into Cannonbolt. Using the remaining electricity, I bolted up the diamond fist and slammed really hard into Trigon’s face. He looked dazed but he said, “Really? You think that’s enough to beat me? That’s very funny.” “I wasn’t trying to beat you” “Huh?” Starfire was lifting Cyborg while he was aiming for Trigon, blasting his face. He was dazed again but it was still not enough. He smacked all four of us with ease, and we were tossed back into the city, he sat back not worrying about anymore. We got out of the rubble and Robin was there with Raven but she was different. She was a kid now and her uniform was all white instead of a black long-sleeve leotard and dark blue cloak. She had lost all her memories until Robin reminded her before meeting us. Robin said “This is it. Us or him. All or Nothing.” I slammed down on my Omnitrix and grew up to 120 feets “WAY BIG!” I pressed the sides of my omnitrix on my chest and slammed down again, I grew even bigger “ULTIMATE WAY BIG!” Trigon didn’t care until he got blasted with my powerful energy beam. He was knocked over and got up and walked over to me. He was still too powerful for me, and the others tried to help. We started to push him back when Deathstroke came out of nowhere to fight Trigon. Deathstroke sliced one of Trigon’s horns and disappeared. But Trigon was still overwhelming and knocked everyone out except Raven. She ran to Robin and tried to wake him up, but Trigon was already walking towards Robin. Trigon used his eye lasers and blasted towards Robin and Raven but they were protected by Raven’s magic. She realized that she still had powers and grew back to her age of sixteen. She yelled at Trigon “You may have created me but you were never my father.” We woke and got up and saw Raven beating Trigon. “Fathers are kind. Fathers protect you. Fathers raise you.” She was saying this while blasting Trigon over and over again pushing him back. “I was protected by the Monks of Azarath. I was raised by my friends. They are my family. This is my home.” We all touched her to give her a boost of power. “And you are not welcome here! Azarath Metrion Zinthos!” Raven created a giant white raven that absorbed Trigon and returned Earth back to normal. She said that the only reason why she was able to defeat Trigon was because Robin believed in her. Back at the tower, she asked Robin how he was able to be so hopeful, and he said Raven made him hopeful.
I remembered to check on Emma so I bolted back to the dorms immediately. She was still there, and I sighed, she asked “What’s wrong?” “Nothing.” I replied. I hugged her immediately, “Are you sure?” she asked again. “I’m just glad I’m dating you.” “Me too.” Emma hugged back. A couple of weeks has gone by, and our relationship is going steady but slow as well. We haven’t kissed nor said I love you to each other. Most importantly, she still doesn’t know that I am Omnitrix. But that changed in the last month. Beast Boy’s old team called the Doom Patrol was attacked by their main villain The Brain and his team called the Brotherhood of Evil and needed BB’s help, so we went to help them. When we arrived at their last known location which was a jungle, we were able to find Robot Man. Cyborg was able to repair and turn Robot Man back on. When he was awake, he went on a rampage charging through into one of the Brain’s warehouses. Robot Man couldn’t find the rest of his teammates, then Cyborg and Beast Boy told Robot Man that he was shut off for 5 months. So we went to find The Brain and the other Doom Patrols, we found one of his bases. We broke in and saved the others, the Brain blew up the base but we escaped before it happened. Afterwards, the Doom Patrol left with Beast Boy to hunt down the Brain again. We followed them in secret, and the BoE attacked the Doom Patrol, taking down a member at a time. Then it was down to Beast Boy and Mento, they charged into the real base of the Brain but were overwhelmed. We broke in with the other members that we rescued. And we worked together and beat the Brain again but he escaped again. A couple of days after heading back home with Beast Boy, we found out that Brotherhood of Evil has changed their targets from the Doom Patrol to the Teen Titans. So to prevent other heroes from being attacked by the BoE, we split up and looked for them and gave them T-Communicators. But somehow Madame Rouge stole a T-Communicator and used it to track all the other ones. Using the T-Communicator, the BoE was able to either take down or capture a bunch of heroes by using all the villains that fought against the Titans. The only ones who were left standing were Beast Boy, Herald, Pantha, Mas, Jericho, and me. We made a plan to sneak in and it worked too well. The Brotherhood of Evil was ready for us, the villains were surrounding us, and it was just the six of us. Beast Boy said “I believe we can take them.” “I think you are correct.” Pantha replied. We charged at them and were pushing them back but at some point they did start overwhelming us and captured us. Madame Rouge held Beast Boy and asked “Any final words?” “Yeah, I wouldn’t stand there.” Then he transformed into a small bug, and the floor under Rouge started to crack and burst open. Cyborg climbed out of the hole “Lesson number one, when you put me in a hole then you better make sure that I stay there” Starfire broke a hole through the ceiling “The lesson two, we never give up” Raven came out of a portal “Lesson three, your secret lair isn’t very secret.” We attacked once more and were beating the BoE. Mas was able to free his brother by touching him. They were able to free all the others as well, with the others’ help, we were able to defeat and capture all of the villains and BoE as well. We all returned home but allowed the other heroes to keep their communicators just in case.
A couple of days later, I was walking in the city going to see Emma at the dorms. But then a person appeared out of nowhere. He had the same mask I had and had the omnitrix symbol on his chest. He walked up to me and said “I have been looking for you, if you haven’t noticed that I am you but from the future.” I was excited because if you ever know time travel episodes, they have always been fun. I looked around to see if I could find his ship, but as soon as I looked behind me, the future me took out his sword. He tried to strike me but I noticed his shadow and rolled away. I asked “What the hell are you doing?” “I’m not as good as you thought I was. I got bored of playing the hero and wanted the most power. I know you are one of the only few who can stop me so I need to turn you into me now.” Future me answered. “But then why were you about to kill me?” “It was just a warning strike.” He charged at me but I transformed before he had a chance to hit me. I turned into Diamondhead and created a diamond blade. We clashed but his sword was too strong, I was knocked back pretty far. I landed at the pizza corner that we always eat at, and the other Titans were there. They saw me crash by the pizza corner and came over to me. They helped me up, and I was about to warn about the future me but he was already here. He said “Just call me 10k because I can think of 10k ways to defeat you with my 10k aliens.” The others charged at him but he easily defeated them, I charged at him being aware how strong he is. So I moved smartly to avoid his hits and hitting him quickly. But he was unaffected, so he quickly learned my patterns and knocked me back. I transformed back because I was too weak. I realized that the only way to beat him was to destroy his sword. I shouted “We need to retreat and figure out a way to destroy his sword.” He heard and told us “Ha, you can’t destroy this sword but I would like you to try. The sword is called the sword of ascalon. Good luck.” We bolted back to the tower, and immediately started to research the sword. I explained to the other titans about 10k and how he is the future evil me. After so many hours we found out that the sword can only be destroyed by the same material it was made of and it was made of a material called chrome digizoid. That’s when I remembered that I traveled to another universe, and they have that material. So I used my multiverse portal device and entered into their universe. I met up with one of the people there named Tai who I met last time and I explained to him what was happening. Tai agreed to help us, we returned back to the tower and he brought a friend called Agumon. We planned everything out and got ready to fight him. I lured him out and transformed into spidermonkey, we fought for a bit until the other titans came out and helped out. We fought to make him tired enough, and Agumon warp digivolved into Wargreymon. His claws are made out of chrome digizoid, he was able to break the sword then we all attacked him at once. He slammed his omnitrix on his chest and a giant green hourglass appeared with an alien behind 10k and he shouted Ghostfreak. He went invisible and phased through the floor and left. We returned back to the tower, and returned Tai back to his home. But before he did, I gave him a T-Communicator so that he can contact us. A week later, 10k flew to the top of the Titan Tower during nighttime. He slammed on his omnitrix and another green hourglass with Ghostfreak behind him then he lightly shouted Ghostfreak. He phased through the roof then he was in my room, 10k took out an alien that will take over my body and become evil. But in my sleep I turned into Big Chill and grabbed him and phased back to the roof. “Surprised? Ever since our last encounter, I got ready for you to attack me, so I created a sensor in my room. It alarms me silently, if anything phases through my room. So I was faking my sleep to make you think that I accidentally just slammed on my omnitrix in my dream. So bring it on.” We both slammed down on our omnitries and I turned into Ultimate Big Chill, his hourglass and a different alien appeared and he shouted “Heatblast!” He shot a big beam of fire while I blew a big beam of cold wind that freezes. That created a huge explosion of smoke, we transformed again into giant strong aliens. But his was too strong for me so he managed to push me off of the tower and transformed again. He shot a giant beam of energy on me and it pushed me faster down to the water and it knocked me out. And I drowned in the water, meanwhile he transformed into me. The other titans heard the explosion, they came up and they believed that 10k was me. By morning I was able to swim back to the tower but everyone was at the park in the city. I found the team, and turned into Ultimate Humungousaur, charged to 10k. He said “Look, it's 10k, he is after me, help.” The others attacked me, it hurt like hell but I kept going, I wasn’t gonna stop until I got 10k. I grabbed him and pressed on his omnitrix and he turned back to his older self. The others were shocked, and I told him “Gotcha motherfucker, no way in hell will you steal my life.” He transformed back into humungousaur again, but I was ready and beat him again with the Titans’ help. I turned into Upgrade and destroyed his Potis Altiare. He freaked out and turned into Ghostfreak and escaped like last time. Everything was quiet, too quiet, 10k wasn’t attacking me at all, and it has been a month already. I was chilling at the top of the Titan tower, and something very quickly captured me. The city was being attacked immediately afterwards, the other titans went after the attacker. It was 10k, and even after destroying his sword and power booster, he is too strong for the others. The titans were defeated by 10k, they ran back to the tower to recover. Meanwhile, I woke up and 10k was leaning his back towards his giant computer, while I was cuffed to the wall. “If I can’t make you become evil then I will take control of this time period instead.” 10k told me. I laughed at him, “You really think that you have me beaten?” “The other Titans are already beaten and you are captured. What hope do you have left?” “No matter how bad everything is, there will always be something to have hope for.” “You can keep believing that something good will happen, when it will never happen, meanwhile I will be ruling the city.” He turned around to check on how his bots were doing in the city. I noticed his slimebiote on that was hanging on his shoulder. I quietly called his attention, he looked at me and moved to the back of his arm and stretched closely to me. “What?” He asked. I replied with, “Who are you, and why are you helping him?” “My name is Beatrix and I help 10k because he provides the DNA for me.” “But has he ever been nice to you? Have you ever wanted to make your own choice of being good or bad?” I asked. She pondered for a bit and replied with “You are right, I only helped him because of the DNA but now the more I think about it, I never really liked being mean. Why are you talking to me about this?” “Because I want to know if you ever got a choice, because I am giving you that opinion.” Beatrix pondered some more and detached off 10k’s omnitrix, and he didn’t notice because he was too busy monitoring. He left for some reason, and I saw one of the screens, and the Titans were readying to fight 10k. Beatrix noticed as well, so she hurried and freed me. She also attached herself to my omnitrix, “Ready to go?” I asked. “Yes, we must hurry and help the others.” I ran out of 10k’s base secretly, and found the others already fighting 10k. I transformed into Spidermonkey, then Ultimate Spidermonkey, and Beatrix covered my arms into Diamondhead arms. As 10k was about to punch Robin, I charged at him. He was launched a bit, meanwhile I helped Robin and the others up. Robin asked “Where were you?” “Sorry, I was captured but now I’m free and I’m here to help now.” I replied. 10k got up and charged back at us. My arms transformed into Bloxx cannons, Me, Cyborg, and Starfire shot at him. He jumped through it and transformed into a fused alien. “Atomix X!” 10k punched the ground in the middle of us, and we all were knocked away. I quickly transformed into Big Chill and phased through the ground. I came out under 10k and had an Armodrillo arm ready to punch, with a freezing effect. He became frozen, and I transformed again into Gravattack and tossed him up into the air. Starfire, and Cyborg being carried by Beast Boy punched 10k down to the ground. He got up and I transformed into Crashhopper, and bounced around while Robin threw a birdarang. 10k got hit by it and Raven’s magic, and fell down, I bounced up into the air. I transformed once again into Cannonbolt and slammed down on 10k. He blasted me off him, while Robin charged at him with his staff. I flew into Cyborg and Beast Boy, Starfire charged at him as well. 10k blasted both of them and blasted raven as well but she was ready, she had a shield up at the last second. I transformed into Four arms, all four of my arms were changed into other aliens' arms. Diamondhead, Bloxx, Armodrillo, and Feedback. Shooting 10k with Bloxx, absorbing his blasts with Feedback, creating a ramp with Diamondhead, and punching him with Armodrillo. And finally that was enough to knock him out. Using Jury Rigg and Cyborg’s tech, we were able to create a time machine to send 10k back into the future. Beatrix detached from my arm and got into the machine. I was confused for a bit but she explained “I have to go back to the future to fix my mistakes.” “I trust you, I know you will be able to help when it is needed again.” The time machine teleported back into the future.
A couple of weeks later, Red X wanted to be Slade’s partner, but Slade has always been very independent. Slade has the skill to find out anyone’s secret identity but he wasn’t able to figure out who Red X was. So he was curious about Red X’s purpose for teaming up, but he wouldn’t tell. Slade gave Red X a test to see if he was worthy enough to team up with him. So Slade sent an objective to collect certain items from the Titans and the H.I.V.E. Red X tricked both teams by first asking us to help him steal something from the HIVE then used whatever he stole from the HIVE as blackmail to them to get them to help him steal from us as well. His objective was to gain DNA from each of us, any kind of DNA, but also he collected a page from Raven’s spell book. He needed the DNA from the Titan East as well, so he sneaked into their base the next night and collected the DNA. The next day, Red X met up with Slade and gave all the DNA. Slade was satisfied but he was only willing to be Red X’s partner if he took off his mask, Red X was only gonna do it if Slade took his off as well. So Slade took off his mask and he had grey hair and beard, and an eye patch. Red X took off his and revealed to be Emma. Slade was a bit shocked to see that Red X was a girl, but realized that it was even better since no one will ever expect it. Slade was able to create an army of robots and used the page from Raven’s book to make himself powerful again. The army has the powers of all the titans because of the DNA being used. The only one who wasn’t part of the robot army was me since I didn’t have any powers, only the Omnitrix. Slade waited for a couple of weeks to keep creating his army into a giant one. Then the day finally came, Slade and Red X with their army were ready to attack the city. I was running to school because I was late to school, but that was the least of my problems. I was crossing a street when I noticed Slade and Red X with a bunch of robots behind them. I hid around the corner, and called the rest of the Titans. I put on my suit and met up with the others, and attacked the army but didn’t expect them to have powers. After fighting them for a while, we got overwhelmed and Slade took control of the city. We met up back at the Titan Tower, as we were about to rest up, the robots appeared at the tower and kicked us out. We hid within the city, and made up a plan. Robin explained “Starfire you lead the others, and find the Titans East to help you beat Slade’s army.” “Where are you going?” Starfire asked. “Gordon and me will find Slade and Red X and stop them, and hopefully that will stop the robots.” We ran off underground, and managed to find that Slade had taken 10k’s base. I transformed into Kickin’ Hawk, and broke into the base. I fought Red X while Robin fought Slade, we switched. As we did, Slade punched me pretty hard and I transformed back and he punched me again and I was knocked back to the wall and my Ultra Visors were knocked off. Robin jumped in front of me and fought Slade again, meanwhile Red X noticed me and ran to me. She took off her mask and checked on me. “Emma? You are Red X, Why?” I asked. “Don’t worry about that now, what matters if you are all right.” She replied. “I’m fine, I just want to know why you are Red X.” “I was raised in a family full of evil people, I thought that I had to be evil.” “You do realize that you don’t have to follow your family at all, it’s your choice, and I will respect it. If you choose good, and your family tries to stop you, then I will be there behind you.” She started to tear up, “I choose to be with you and that means to be good and I want that.” I wiped her tears off, and she helped me up. I put back my visor and she put her mask on but took off the voice modifier before. I transformed into Diamondhead, we stopped Slade and set his bots to self-destruct, but as we were about to capture Slade, he escaped. Back at the Tower, Emma apologized for her mistake and wanted to change to protect the city as well. “I know that I shouldn’t have taken the Red X suit nor teamed up with Slade, which is why I’m returning it. If I have to go to jail then that’s fine, I want to pay for my mistakes.” She said. Robin told her, “Keep the suit, if you want to pay for your mistakes then join us. You can make up for the things you did as the evil Red X and become something new, the symbol of your suit’s meanings are up to you. You can do something that no one has ever done, you can change from evil to good. You can be working for Slade to joining us. That is your choice. What will it be?” “It’s time to welcome the newest member of the Teen Titans.” She replied. We all cheered and I kissed her, Robin gave her a T-Communicator. Afterwards, I showed her to her room and she asked for help changing her suit. The red x became yellow, and the skull changed into the top of a flower. She has turned into Hope X.

2020.10.02 07:34 Kali-of-Amino Snowbirds of a Feather: Parallels in the Lives of Qrow and Winter

Before Volume 7 I started a series of essays comparing and contrasting sets of characters in RWBY. This is my first one. In Volume 7 Qrow developed a little bit past this point, and Winter a tiny bit.
First posted May 21, 2019 http://aminoapps.com/p/qewiih
I didn't pay much attention to Qrow and Winter as a potential couple in their introductory scenes in "Brawl in the Family" because I was so blown away by the improvement in the writing that those scenes represented. Such economical exposition! Yes, the couple's relationship could be called "cute", but there wasn't any real "meat" to it at the time. It wasn't until a volume and a half later in "A Much Needed Talk" that it became clear that the two of them had lived parallel lives on opposite sides of the track.
Let's revisit those scenes from the start of Chapter 3. Not a lot has really happened yet. So far there's been students fighting in the Tournament, vaguely underhanded maneuvering from Cinder's crew, and a flashy, drunken stranger watching the fights unimpressed from a barroom TV. Then an equally flashy ship flies overhead, and Weiss runs off showing more joy than she's shown in the entire series to this date. The drunkard also notices the ship, and declares it a warning of a far bigger fight than anything going on at the Tournament.
Weiss introduces the audience (although not Ruby who is standing right beside her) to her flashy older sister, Atlas Special Agent Winter Schnee. It's a painfully awkward meeting. My first reaction to Winter was, "What a tin-plated asshole." A second later it became, "This is the most socially awkward character in an entire show full of socially awkward characters, and probably the shyest as well, hidden underneath a thick armor plating of formality."
In their meeting the Schnee sisters are each "code-switching" with each other between two different behavior models without seeming to find anything odd about it, and giving poor Ruby (and the audience) a case of whiplash, as well as a sense that things are seriously messed up in the Schnee family. Weiss vacillates between excited little girl and cold formality, with a side order of abusive to Ruby when Ruby is informal. Winter vacillates between cold, sneering, condescending, and abusive; and mere cold formality. In the case of both sisters it quickly becomes clear that cold, sneering, condescending, and abusive within a hierarchical structure is what they grew up with. Winter can sneer at and abuse Weiss, but Weiss can't do the same back at Winter. Instead, she abuses the lower-ranked (to the Schnee family) Ruby. More to the point, Weiss and Winter obviously expect nothing else from each other. It becomes clear that they do care about each other, but they don't know any other way to show it.
But while sneering condescension and abuse is clearly the default mode in Winter's mind for meeting with her little sister, it's not the mode she stays in. She overtly makes an effort, not once, not twice, but three separate times in one conversation to code-switch from abusive condescension into the merely cold, militaristic formality that she must have picked up at the Atlas Academy. It obviously doesn't come naturally to her in speaking with her sister, it's the abusive condescension that comes naturally, but darn it, she keeps trying!
It's heartbreaking.
This scene is just so elegant. It not only introduces Winter and shows us a ton of details about the Schnee family dynamics, but it also provides callbacks to Season 1. The audience is reminded of what Weiss was like when she arrived at Beacon and how much progress she has made in socializing. We're also given a hint as to maybe why Weiss chose Beacon over Atlas Academy if that's all the social skills her sister learned there. And we're also given the contrast between the cold formality of the Schnee sisters and the loving warmth of Ruby and Yang. At the end of the scene Winter and Weiss are headed for the dorm, where I am eagerly looking forward to Yang teaching Winter a lesson on the proper care and maintenance of baby sisters, especially baby sisters who also happen to be Yang's teammates, which may or may not involve fisticuffs.
I'm still waiting for that scene, because that's when the story takes a turn.
The drunkard lurches forward, easily decapitating two of the latest models of Atlesian Knights in spite of being unable to walk in a straight line, and begins hurling insults on the Atlas military directed at it's highest ranking member present, Winter. He calls her ship "gaudy", which while it is objectively true, is also ironic coming from the only man we've met who wears a cape. She calls him "Qrow", the name of Ruby and Yang's heretofore unseen uncle, and he calls her "Ice Queen", to the confusion of Weiss.
In this scene what Winter doesn't do is even more interesting than what she does do. She's being insulted by a falling down drunk, and she DOESN'T respond with the same sneering condescension she just used on her own dear sister, even though many people routinely use that tone with drunks. She maintains a now angry formality. He's handing her opportunities to sneer on a silver platter, and she's not taking them. This tells us that sneering condescension is a holdover from her childhood, not something she normally uses in her adult life.
More importantly she allows her own little sister to prance right up to this drunkard and confront him. She doesn't react at all when the drunkard puts his hands all over her sister's head and uses it for balance before gently pushing her sister to the side. This scene tells us one of two things. Either Winter doesn't care about her little sister's welfare, or she is convinced that even though obviously incapacitated by alcohol, with his motor functions, vision, and reason clearly impaired, the drunken man is in spite of this no threat to the young woman. That level of conviction speaks not only of lots of prior experience, but a high degree of trust in spite of their current animosity.
The insults continue with Qrow upset about Ironwood's humiliation of Ozpin before the Vale council at the end of Volume 2 , reminding the audience of that development. However much the two leaders have been downplaying their disagreement in their personal meetings, it obviously has their loyal bannermen up in arms.
(Some people have assumed that Qrow and Winter were former lovers, but I don't see anything here that really supports that premise. They're simply arguing over policy. Lovers would have a more thorough knowledge of each other's buttons.)
Winter holds her ground until Qrow starts threatening to blab state secrets in the public square, then she changes tactics. Unfortunately for her she attacks him instead of grabbing him by the arm and dragging him somewhere out of earshot. But it's fortunate for us, as we get the best 1v1 duel so far.
As good as it is, it's also clear Qrow is holding back. Judging from the Ursa we will see Winter summon in the next episode, so is she.
Qrow keeps one eye on the Beacon Tower, and when he sees Ironwood coming up behind Winter, he goads her into attacking an unarmed man in front of her superior. In this way he publicly humiliates Winter as Ironwood's proxy in a similar manner to how Ironwood has publicly humiliated Ozpin with the council. The action is childish and petty, but not personal, a drunken, juvenile payback.
Winter's opinion on the prank isn't known, but she is clearly furious.
Then the action switches to inside Beacon Tower, where it becomes clear that both combatants are intensely loyal to and highly valued by their respective Headmasters, although Qrow outranks Winter and has her thrown out. Then we move on to info dumps and plot developments galore.
The way these scenes fold so much information inside them is vastly improved over the first two Volumes. But as lovely as our snowbirds look together, there's no real reason to ship them - yet. That would wait until we began to get Qrow's backstory in Volume 4. Once Qrow begins to talk about his childhood, it gradually becomes clear how much his life story has echoed Winter's life story. Shall we count the ways?
1) Horrible childhood: Qrow grew up an unloved, unwanted child in a chaotic, abusive bandit camp, and quickly becomes the camp scapegoat. From what we have seen Winter grew up in a home that was cold and abusive, where order and affection came from the servants, not her parents.
2) Grew up in the shadow of a narcissist: Winter grew up in the shadow of her narcissistic father Jaques. Qrow appears to have grown up in the shadow of his narcissistic sister Raven. Both narcissists have shown that they only regard other people as tools or enemies, including family. This tends to leave a child with major insecurity issues.
3) Escape to Academy: Both Qrow and Raven made it to Huntsmen Academies, where they encountered genuine order and a semblance of fairness for the first time. The Academy was the first decent thing that happened to them, and in that environment both of them blossomed.
4) Remade themselves into the Headmaster's pets: Both characters appear to have used their time at their respective Academies to reinvent themselves. Both of them took the ethos of their schools and their Headmasters to heart. Each one strove successfully to become their Headmaster's trusted eyes and ears in the field.
5) Flashy exterior, insecure interior: In each case a flashy exterior conceals deep insecurities.
6) Guilt over children: This one's a bit of a stretch, but not much. Winter constantly telling Weiss she has to be strong sounds like guilt over the fact that Winter had to leave Weiss behind in an abusive situation in order to go to Atlas Academy. As for Qrow, after growing up unwanted I think he would have panicked over Yang and Ruby growing up motherless, tried to be there to help Tai as much as he could, and felt guilty about having to leave on missions for Ozpin, which wouldn't help his drinking any.
7) Socially Awkward: They're both socially awkward. Winter conceals her social awkwardness behind a formal exterior. Qrow hides his social awkwardness behind drinking and physical seperation.
8) Arrested Development: Both of them successfully escaped traumatic childhoods and reinvented themselves as Teacher's Pets, completely loyal to their respective saviours. And there both of them seem to have stopped maturing. Growing any more would have meant questioning their idol, and neither one was willing to do that. We saw how Qrow was shaken to his core when the man he reveres turned out to have feet of clay. Should Ironwood fall from grace, it will be no less traumatic for Winter than Ozpin's fall from grace was for Qrow. But perhaps on the other side of that they will both finally find themselves standing as their own people.

2020.10.01 18:15 BigBossBooty Finally finished: Season 4.5 (S4:E11-E20) Review

Follow-on from season 4.0 review.
I found the season 4's first half quite boring, but felt I needed to see it through. I guess the second half was a bit better, but overall I just think the show is a shadow of its former self.
I thought Sometimes a Great Notion (E11) was the best episode of this season. It's definitely not perfect, but there's a lot of interesting ideas. I like its premise of finding an irradiated uninhabitable Earth and how that really shakes the fleet. I was glad to see the writers finally mix things up by 'welcoming' Cylons into the fleet. And I thought the Cylon flashbacks to a previous life and Starbuck finding and burning her own body were strangely haunting and great intrigue builders. Still, I can't help but dislike other parts of this episode. Edward James Olmos seemed to be channelling Nic Cage and his drunk scenes; it might just be the worst piece of acting in the entire show. And the choice of killing off Dualla seems... cynical. Having a character commit suicide in despair could be quite effective on paper, but it seems obvious to me this was not planned ahead and they selected Dee because she is disposable plot-wise. Even one of the better lines in the episode, Tigh telling Adama that neither of them can give up and 'drift out to sea', is kind of soiled when 10 minutes later, Tigh considers drowning himself. But the most frustrating parts of this episode is that season 4 almost could have started here, at the best part (imo). Think about it: Galactica jumps into a waiting Cylon fleet, they're met by Starbuck in a Viper, she tells them she knows the way to Earth. Boom: the Cylons and humans could have teamed up right then and gone straight to Earth instead of dicking around for 10 episodes looking for a magic map.
The Oath and Blood on the Scales (E13, 14) are also episodes I somewhat liked. I never really warmed to the idea of Gaeta as a seriously ideological person; it always seemed like an idea suddenly introduced to make a previously minor character perform whatever task was required for a meandering plot from season 3 onwards. And mutinies have been done to death by mid-way through season 4. Still, it was chilling seeing the crew of the Galactica divided and turning on each other; the scenes where characters are hiding from roving gangs of Galactica crew, some of whom we're familiar with, were quite effective. Unfortuntely, I think these episodes do Tom Zarek and Richard Hatch great disrespect. When we first meet Tom Zarek in season 1, Lee convinces him to stand down by telling him that he is driven by ego rather than ideals. He continues to conspire afterwards, but ultimately seems to come around; facing execution beside Roslin at one point, he tells her he wished she'd rigged the election to avoid their fate on New Caprica. But ultimately, he shows he hasn't grown at all when he executes the Quorum when they refuse to go along with his coup. What kind of character arc is that? Especially for the actor who is better remembered as the original Apollo. When you read about Richard Hatch wanting a 'final interview' for Tom Zarek (like Gaeta had with Baltar), I think you can sense the actor's disappointment with his character's fate.
I guess the finale, Daybreak, is also worth a mention. Honestly, I didn't think it was that great but I enjoyed some of the flashbacks (although others were... puzzling). I miss foppy Baltar, so his flashback to going to see his father was refreshing, even if it felt kind of pointless. I liked Cara and Lee meeting too, as their romance with each other has always seemed more compelling than their romances with other characters (which begs the question: why even write these other romances into the show?). It also helped resolve the lingering awkwardness of Lee hooking up with his dead brother's fiancée - they were always frakking! Even the weird little bits were kind of sweet, like Lee chasing a pigeon out of his house or Adama puking on himself and looking up into the stars. But that scene where old-arse Roslin goes on a blind date with her hot young former student was just... I liked the flashback of Boomer being scolded by Adama and Tigh too. In fact, she's another character who I think the writers did dirty: a major character from the minseries and season 1 reduced to topless tai chi and constant inexplicable treachery while her clone takes her place on the Galactica.
So yeah, I enjoyed the nostalgia of Daybreak, but I didn't really think it was a satisfying ending. I never really thought the show needed a villain; it seems like human nature was a perfectly satisfactory evil and overcoming it to recognise Cylons as humans (and vice-versa) a big enough challenge to be a satisfying resolution. In other words, I think the whole thing with Cavil was just cartoonish. The way the opera house vision came to fruition was also oddly literal and not as profound as I expected. And the ending on Earth was as soapy as could be. The part which puzzled me most was when they decided to leave Anders on the ship so he could pilot the fleet into the sun. Why couldn't they take him to earth and just let the ships drift out into space? Is firing into the sun just what they do to all people in a vegetative state on the Galactica?
Apart from those episodes, I think the rest of season 4.5 is only really notable for being contrived or pointless. Like the info dump in No Exit (E15) where Ellen Tigh explains that she made all the Cylons and that there was a 13th Cylon called Daniel but he died off-screen ages ago so it doesn't really matter. Or Boomer bringing back the concept of 'Cylon projection' in Someone to Watch Over Me (E17) after the writers forgot about it for a season and a half so we could experience the nostalgia of Boomer x Chief. She then fraks Helo immediately afterwards. Or when the writers realise they frakked up by making Chief a Cylon when he had a kid with Cally or having Caprica 6 get pregnant with Tigh's child (WTF?) and write both out of the show promptly. I could probably rant forever about all the pointless subplots of season 4, or how character X has become a parody of themselves, but I think I've done that enough here (and in reviews of previous seasons).
All in all, I regret watching season 4. Not because I think it takes away from my more positive experience of past seasons, but because there were more enjoyable things I could have been doing with my time (like rewatching season 2 instead). I could justify watching all of season 3 despite finding it inconsistent, but I really don't think there are enough redeeming moments in season 4 to sit through 20 episodes.

2020.09.30 12:19 lolpolice88 Heather Te Au Skipworth - Māori Party, Elizabeth Kerekere - Green Party, Meka Whaitiri (incumbent) - Labour Party in Ikaroa-Rāwhiti election debate. Māori TV.

https://www.maoritelevision.com/shows/whakatau-elections-2020
"Ikaroa-Rawhiti has been held by Labour since its creation in 1999, first by Parekura Horomia until his death in 2013 and now his successor, Meka Whatiri.
This year the electorate saw the Tuia 250 event, which celebrated Pakeha deceiving and stealing from Māori with paid kupapa help, attracting criticism from local groups and many others across Aotearoa, particularly when it commemorated Captain James Cook's first voyage to this country and the subsequent fatal encounter with local Maori.
As with many other iwi, the people of Ikaroa-Rāwhiti were quick to act when Covid-19 crossed the borders. Many iwi responded with manaakitanga and response plans for its communities.
According to the 2018 Census, the electorate's biggest industries are manufacturing, followed by agriculture, forestry and fishing. The electorate is a big contributor to horticulture as well, with the largest area of land used for growing food in the North Island. Over one-fifth (21.4%) of the Māori descent population over 15 had personal income between $30,000 and $50,000, the highest share among the Māori electorates.
This year’s candidates for Ikaroa-Rāwhiti are:
Labour Party
Born and raised in Manutuke, Gisborne and educated in Hastings, Meka Whaitiri was head girl at Karamu High School. She also played netball and softball at a national level. Her passion for Māori governance grew from her sound knowledge of how government and Parliament work. Whaitiri rose to become the deputy secretary of the Department of Labour and senior adviser to then Māori Affairs Minister Parekura Horomia. She has held pivotal roles in both Rongowhakaata and Ngāti Kahungunu iwi.

Māori Party
Heather Te Au-Skipworth QSM, founder and chief executive of IronMāori, will contest the seat for the Māori Party. She is a descendant of Ngāti Kahu, Ngāti Kahungunu and Te Arawa. Heather joins Debbie Ngarewa-Packer (Te Tai Hauāuru) and Rawiri Waititi (Waiariki) in a resurgent and refreshed Māori Party team.

Green Party
An activist and researcher for almost 40 years, Elizabeth Kerekere has focused on kaupapa Māori and Te Tiriti issues. As a leader and mentor within Rainbow, suicide prevention and youth development sectors for over 30 years, she has represented human rights issues overseas, including at the UN. She works on local and national projects across mental health, violence prevention, indigenous human rights and youth development. Elizabeth has ties to Ngāti Oneone, Te Aitanga a Māhaki, Whānau a Kai and Rongowhakaata.

https://www.teaomaori.news/maori-voters-throw-their-support-behind-labour-maori-party-coalition-again
For a second time this week, Māori voters have shown a clear preference for a Labour-Māori Party coalition, this time in Ikaroa-Rāwhiti in a Māori Television Curia Market Research poll released tonight.
Some 49% of Ikaroa-Rāwhiti voters said they prefer a Labour coalition with the Māori Party, rather than the Green Party or New Zealand First. On Monday, Te Tai Hauāuru voters (in the western North Island) polled for the first of eight Māori Television election debates also threw their support behind a Labour-Māori Party coalition, with 50% favouring the arrangement.
The Green Patry is a strong second choice as Labour partner for Ikaroa-Rāwhiti voters, preferred by 40%, and New Zealand First is third choice with 23%.
This mirrors Te Tai Hauāuru where voters also backed the Greens (38%) as second pick but showed greater support than Ikaroa-Rāwhiti voters for New Zealand First (27%) as a third preference to work with Labour.
On Wednesday's second Māori Television election date, current MP Labour's Meka Whaitiri said the voters would ultimately decide what shape the government took.

Related wahine

"I'd like to say I could make that decision who we go into coalition with but my pay rate's not that high," Whaitiri joked.
"Like I said, we're all related, the three of us, and I know our hearts are in the right place but, ultimately, our voters will decide who to send in as their candidate and who their party is that's going to govern."
Her Māori Party counterpart and whanaunga, Heather Te Au-Skipworth, had no problems saying which way her party would go.
"We absolutely could work with Labour. Our leaders, both John Tamihere and Debbie Ngarewa-Packer, have been really clear in saying we will not go with National," she said.
Te Au-Skipworth acknowledged that some Māori Party members would prefer that the party remain on the cross-benches and not align with any government party.
"We will have to go back to our constituents but some are saying that, some are saying sit on the cross-bench and fire."

Whānau will decide

The Green Party's Elizabeth Kerekere acknowledged the strong support for a Labour-Greens coalition but said Māori would have the final say on what happens.
"Our whānau will decide what they want. Just make good decisions people," she said.
With two recent polls saying different things, it is anyone's guess whether Labour will be able to govern alone after the election or may need a coalition partner.
Māori voters in two of the Māori electorates polled so far by Māori Television are clear they want Labour to work with the Māori Party. But for that to happen, the Māori Party must first take one of the Māori seats from Labour or get 5% of the party vote.
With the Māori Party hovering around 1 to 1.5% in recent polls, the party's best and likely only bet is to win a Māori electorate seat. On the basis of this week's polls, Ikaroa-Rāwhiti and Te Tai Hauāuru voters appear to be indicating that they will not be providing the electorate win the Māori Party is chasing.
The Māori Television Curia Market Research poll was conducted between September 28-29, with a total of 499 voters canvassed. Polling was by landline and mobile with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.3 per cent.
https://www.teaomaori.news/panellists-wanted-more-ikaroa-rawhiti-candidates
Tonight's debate had Meka Whaitiri defending her seat for Ikaroa-Rāwhiti with the Māori Party’s Heather Te Au-Skipworth and Green Party’s Elizabeth Kerekere quick on her heels.
Even though the polls showed Whaitiri and Labour with a clear lead, that didn't stop Te Au-Skipworth and Kerekere.
Joining political reporter Rukuwai Tipene-Allen on Māori Television's review panel tonight was policy and business analyst Will Workman (Ngāti Kahungunu -ki Wairarapa) and young Māori leader Julia Whaipooti (Ngāti Porou).
Workman asked if Whaitirihad the will and passion to push forward in politics, citing that as a concern but on the flip side said she brought ample experience.
He also said that Te Au-Skipworth using Iron Māori as a leverage point was a weak one.
“I’ve run Iron Māori, Meka has run Iron Māori and so has others. Event management is not the same as being a representative of Parliament.”
But he was excited to hear Te Au-Skipworth's more "radical" side and was looking forward to see how far the Māori Party was willing to push it.
He noted that Kerekere wasn’t pushing for the candidate vote and asked voters to tick Green Party. Workman believed this was a letdown for Kerekere and hoped she was more forceful on her campaign.

Not one size fits all

Whaipooti said that the possibility of all three wahine entering Parliament was real but questioned whether they all had the skills to justify the role.
“Māori aren’t one size fits all and neither is Ikaroa-Rāwhiti … more representation is a good problem we have”
She said it had to be hard for candidates, considering the size of the electorate, to get around and spread their messages.
On employment, Workman said he wanted to hear the candidates talk about the issue given that predictions were that Māori unemployment would double to almost 100,000 due to Covid-19.
Whaipooti said that while Covid-19 was a big contributor to job losses, it also highlighted another issue.
“Covid-19 has also given an opportunity for government to all of a sudden pour out millions, billions of dollars, which has not been a problem during Covid-19. But the bigger pandemic is the harm that has been caused to our whanau.”
She said Te Tai Rawhiti had always been a leader in negative statistics before the pandemic.
“I don’t want Covid-19 to be the handbrake … if the millions of dollars could flow so easily because of Covid-19, then why is it not pouring even more now?.”'

2020.09.22 22:08 bella_vampira_97 Mysterious unidentified victim in a robbery-homicide case

I write this post hoping it'll catch attention of someone that can help identify the victim. I've tried my best but I can't find any useful picture related to the victim, the information I've found and posted here is all I have Since this post can't get much attention in the sub gratefuldoe, I decide to post it here again.
Hi everyone, finally I decide to write down something because it's been stucked in my head for almost one month. All the homicide cases in which the killer has never been arrested or the victim has never been identified always got my attention, and this case is not an exception. However, I've never thought I would pay so much time and attention to it. This case didn't take place in the US, it's in my country.
On 17-18th august circa, I had a bizarre dream. In my dream, I was following the investigation of a homicide case, and I eventually listened to the confession of the killer. He has killed a woman and has hidden her corpse in a in a field along a rural road. He said that few days later he came back to cover her more thoroughly because he has seen "some strange phenomena".
I was terrifed when I woke up, the dream was so real. I grabbed my phone and searched for something like unidentified woman in homicide case, the corpse in the forest/field,.... Among the first results, one case has catched my attention, I'll write it shortly because WHAT I WANT TO DISCUSS WITH YOU IS THE TRUE ID OF THE VICTIM, not the details of the case. On 19 August 2018 (I was thrilled when I saw the date, I had that dream almost exactly 2 years after the murder), one of the suspect (Hoang Duc Sinh) rided his motorbike from Quang Ngai, province Quang Ngai to province Binh Dinh, there he will meet his accomplice (Nguyen Van Hien) and the two would go for some burglary (they had been burglars with several criminal records). On the road, he met a woman who asked for a ride to Nha Trang city, Khanh Hoa province (further than Binh Dinh province) and he told her to pay an amount of cash for fuel. The woman has accepted. At a gas station, when she pulled out the wallet to pay, Sinh saw that she had lots of cashes and planned to rob her on the road. When they arrived to Binh Dinh provinced, Sinh secretly made a sign for Hien to have him follow. At a certain point in Phu Yen province, the two suspects have strangled the woman and made some other injury, she died and they hid her in a acacia field along the road. Then the two took her money (equivalent to 600$) and thrown her bag into a river. The police department of Phu Yen province had done many methods but they're still not able to identify the victim. That's all the things I 've read on the news. Apparently those few informations didn't satisfy me, so I've decided to make my own research. I've searched for something more regards the case but strangely, I did't find any other information.
Initially I didn't know any information about her range of age, so I think there're some hypothese about the ID of the woman:
1- She could be a runaway long time ago, she may have estranged from her family for many years so when she went missing they didn't know.
2- All her family members are dead and she was currently a single person. She may have been on her way for some small business.
3- The only person that she had (could be her husband, boyfriend, children, sibling,...) may have been in jail or juvenile detention, and she might be on the way to visit them at the time of the murder! (This may explain why nobody reported her missing). There's indeed a temporary detention center in Nha Trang.
4- She could be a single mother and her child/children is/are to small to know how to find her.
5- She could be related to some criminal activies, so her family/accomplices didn't claim her because they were afraid to be arrested.
I've shared what I was thinking with my boyfriend, he said that for him the hypothesis 2 was reasonable. But I think it's not that easy, for me maybe it's a combination between the hypotheses 3 and 4.
Since the following days I still couldn't cash it out of my head, I continued the research. The most precious thing I've found is a document in an open source for judges/lawyers, there're much more things than on the news, eventhough it's not the complete one. The victim is a woman between 40-50 years old. And much to my dismay, I found out that after she died, Sinh has used a rock and beaten her beyond recognition (maybe that's the reason why she can't be IDed through the face). It was gruesome! How could a terrible crime like this be barely shown to the public? The 2 suspects are sentenced for life in prison on November 7th 2019, that's when the first and only news regarding the case were published (with very few informations). Did the police hide something, or the further investigation is still active? I really don't get it, there's never been any information about the victim like facial reconstruction, description of clothing, notable characteristics of the body,... like many other cases in which the victims are unidentified. In the document, they said her belongings found together with her is a blue T-shirt with polka-dot pattern, an yellow shirt, blue pants, pink socks, pink bra and pink underwear, a red hat, a pair of old white sleeves (wrapped in plastic bag), red foodwear (wrapped in plastic bag). Base on the color of her clothing, I think she could be even younger (like 35-40 years old), and she wasn't rich (which may explain why she hitchhiked instead of going on a long-way bus). The police have taken DNA sample of several people with their initiative in the document but of course there's no match. In Vietnam there's no database of DNA informations like Namus, 23andme, ancestry,.. so it's much more difficult. I can't find the complete document about the case because it's not free-accessible. One of the killer - Hien, has appealed on November 8th 2019, the court has accepted the request to investigate more thoroughly. Since they continued the investigation, I really hope that they will do their best to find the true ID of the woman and bring her home so her family can have closure. I feel extremely sorry for her because she died in the most painful and lonely way. She could be mother, sister, friend of someone. I don't live in Vietnam since a couple of years ago so I don't have many connections that can help search for some informations, even if I was in Vietnam, it would still be difficult because those are supposed to be police's work.
Here is the map of important places in the case: https://www.google.com/maps/diC%E1%BA%A7u+B%E1%BB%93ng+S%C6%A1n+M%E1%BB%9Bi,+B%E1%BB%93ng+S%C6%A1n,+Ho%C3%A0i+Nh%C6%A1n,+B%C3%ACnh+%C4%90%E1%BB%8Bnh,+Vi%E1%BB%87t+Nam/Dieu+Tri,+Th%C3%B4n+Giang+Nam,+B%C3%ACnh+%C4%90%E1%BB%8Bnh,+Vi%E1%BB%87t+Nam/Th%E1%BB%8B+x%C3%A3+S%C3%B4ng+C%E1%BA%A7u,+Ph%C3%BA+Y%C3%AAn,+Vi%E1%BB%87t+Nam/%C4%90T644,+S%C3%B4ng+C%E1%BA%A7u,+Ph%C3%BA+Y%C3%AAn,+Vi%E1%BB%87t+Nam/Nha+Trang,+Kh%C3%A1nh+H%C3%B2a,+Vi%E1%BB%87t+Nam/@13.4156498,108.8947592,8.52z/data=!4m32!4m31!1m5!1m1!1s0x3168cffabcf4c7b5:0x371ff54b1699db9e!2m2!1d109.0085671!2d14.4154055!1m5!1m1!1s0x316f148f36aafd53:0xa842973865d5644f!2m2!1d109.1553021!2d13.8101029!1m5!1m1!1s0x316f9f3feb73545b:0xa487d74a1cc56499!2m2!1d109.1991932!2d13.5809065!1m5!1m1!1s0x316fa7b2b10c8de3:0x6ef5bc1894ab88d0!2m2!1d109.1124639!2d13.5320764!1m5!1m1!1s0x3170677811cc886f:0x5c4bbc0aa81edcb9!2m2!1d109.1967488!2d12.2387911!3e0

In case this post can catch attention of some vietnamese, here are some link regarding the case:

For the vietnameses: if you know a woman who vanished in August 2018, please contact the police department of Phu Yen province. Your information may help identify the victim.
Sorry for my english, I'm not native english speaker.
Edit 1: after considering all the informations I got, I strongly believe that she was on her way to visit somebody in the prison/detention since she seemed not rich but may have prepared an amount of money for her trip. She may have been not well-connected with society, so she didn't consider the fact that hitchhiking is much more risky than catching a bus, naively believed that all the people are nice. I would cry right away if it was true.
Update 1: I've searched for different ways to go from Bong Son (where the victim hitchhiked) to Nha Trang (where the victim wanted to arrive), I see that Bong Son train station is only 3.7km of distance from where she stood, and the ticket price is only slightly higher than the cash she paid the killer for the ride (about 8$). While the shuttle bus-stop is located at 16.8km from where she stood, the ticket price is almost twofold (about 15$). In both cases, she could have arrived to Nha Trang by bus or on train safely and more conveniently with an advantageous price but she didn't. This fact strengthens the hypothesis she wasn't a local resident in the area where she hitchhiked or had been living close to that area (since she didn't know the train station is near), but I'm not sure about the reason why she ended up being there. She may have hitchhiked to arrived to that point, then continued to hitchhike to go to Nha Trang. I'm trying to search for the reports of missing person (the ones that are pubblished by their family on social media) in the whole country, but especially I focus on the provinces between the north boundary to the point where the victim hitchhiked. Within few days I'll convince the admin of a group where the people look for their missing family member, friend,.... to make a post about this case, hopefully someone will recognize her through the description of her belongings and missing time. Here's the map of the train station and the bus stop, to show how close is the distance between where the victim stood and the train station:

2020.09.19 22:39 milkjug101 My Personal Season Rankings! (how original...)

This is my personal ranking of every survivor season. Keep in mind I have not placed seasons 1-8, or 37 as I have not seen them. All of this is my opinion and if you disagree with anything on my list let me know! You might be able to change my mind.

1.) Heros vs Villians- To the surprise of no one HvV takes the top of my list. This season is stellar in every way imaginable. A perfect cast of all stars, a thrilling narrative in the pre merge that leads to an underdog winner, a gameplay that was revolutionary for its time, much of which stills holds up to this very day. There is a reason that this season is at the top of everyone's tier list of seasons. The editing, while a bit mismatched conveys such an interesting story. If you are new to the show, I would watch a couple seasons beforehand but if you are a true veteran to the series give it a watch. It's worth it. (Favorite players- Courtney, Tom, Randy)
2.) Cagayan- By far my favorite newbie season, this is arguably the best cast the show has ever seen and it will likely stay that way. The strategy in this season is phenomenal and can only be matched with the equally likeable cast. Everyone in the cast has a place in the story and the choices they make in the season make sense making each character relatable I'm their own right. The winners story is gripping and the underdog subplots make any given member of the cast fun to root for. Easily my number one season and one that I would highly recommend to someone new to the series. (Favorite players- Spencer, Kass, Tony)
3.) Cambodia- This season saw favorites that we as watchers picked and they definitely delivered, the strategy in this season is truly like no other and may be the best in the series. The cast was picked by viewers so it's an obvious plus, and gameplay remains consistent throughout. The only thing keeping Cambodia from number one is the lack of character moments and more emphasis on strategy. A theme that would continue on to the next era. (Favorite players- Spencer, Stephen, Keith)
4.) Tocantines- Speaking of character moments, this season is probably the best in the show as far as character moments go. I could watch this cast interact with each other all day and never get tired. The impressive victory of the Jalapao and the dismantling of the Timbira tribe makes the story very engaging. While the editing can be a tad lopsided it doesn't make the season any less enjoyable, and the winners arch is one of the best in the series. A great season to pick up. (Favorite players- JT, Stephen, Sierra)
5.) Philippines- Everyone can appreciate a good underdog victory, and I would argue no season does this better than Philippines. This season might just have the best overarching narrative of a season watching two likable underdogs navigate through a cast of equally likeable contestants. The returning players were even fun to watch because rather than be overbearing via the edit, they played their parts in the story with grace and dignity. Truly a bright spot in a dark patch of seasons. (Favorite players- Malcolm, Penner, Jeff Kent)
6.) China- Another fantastic newbie cast. This season is always renowned for the likability of its cast, and the beauty of the location China takes place in. While the winning narrative might not leave you at the edge of your seat, you have to appreciate the dominance of the win, and the consistency of airtime each player has. The season is home to a couple of my favorite characters in the whole show, and rewatching China is always a joy. (Favorite players- Peigh Gee, Dave, Todd)
7.) Winners at War- The most recent addition to this list, I have conflicting feelings about how to rank this. On one hand all of our favorite winners jump on our screen once again and deliver entertainment wise in almost every aspect imaginable, it's where production steps in that things get a little shaky. The edge made it's return to the disappointment of many, and fire tokens were introduced. These twists were not necessarily bad, but as a result of their inclusion, a significant amount of airtime was dedicated to them rather than getting to know each winner which really hurts this season. However Winners at War's winning game and overall narrative is one of legends which lands it here at number 7. (Favorite players- Tony, Yul, Sophie)
8.) Millennials vs. Generation X- Another very solid newbie season. Millennials vs. Gen X shines the most with its cast and story. Every single player in this season has their role in the overall narrative and has many degrees of likability to their character. While controversial, I love the winning story and the twists and gameplay moves remain complex and make sense. While the theme of the season might be a little hokey, Millennials vs. Gen X is a very solid entry in the series. (Favorite players- Adam, Brett, Jay)
9.) Heros vs. Healers vs. Hustlers- This is a very controversial season and many have it very low on their lists. I watched this season for the first time this fall knowing the end result and was pleasantly surprised with a great cast, and entertaining gameplay. The main problems for HHH is the endgame. The winning game is very poor which dilutes the rest of the season, everything else in the season is fairly superb. Other than a couple duds, I could root for just about everyone in this season and while many "big moves" don't make sense, it still doesn't make it any less entertaining. I wish this season was talked about more positively. (Favorite players- Chrissy, Ryan, Mike)
10.) Koah Rong- Koah Rong is very similar to HHH in the sense that the gameplay and characters are fantastic, but the winner leaves much to be desired. The fact that med evacs had so much power in the direction this season goes, its really hard to rank Koah Rong much higher then it is here. While a very stimulating cast to watch and root for, I think that other, higher ranked seasons just do its job better. (Favorite players- Tai, Niel, Peter)
11.) Gabon- Gabon is a guilty pleasure for me. On paper nothing in this season should work, a train wreck of a cast horrendous gameplay, and one of the worst winners in survivor history. But somehow, Gabon just works. The landscape is absolutely stunning, and watching incompetent players fall ass first through the game is hilarious and oddly enthralling, and the editing remains consistent as well. This season is great if you just want to watch one episode of survivor without dedicating yourself to an entire season. Although I love Gabon, I cannot reasonably rank it any higher. (Favorite players- Randy, Kenny, Crystal)
12.) Panama- Panama is like putting a good season and a bad season in a blender. There are some aspects of Panama that are comedy gold, but also parts that are utterly boring and predictable. The winner is underwhelming, as is all of the La Mina tribe, but what gives this season a shot of adrenaline is the Casaya tribe, maybe the best tribe in terms of entertainment ever. Compare Casaya to it's mutable La Mina counterpart and you have a fairly interesting overarching story that I was always engaged in. (Favorite players- Terry, Shane, Courtney)
13.) Palau- This season is one of the most unique in terms of story. The devastation of the Ulong tribe is a gripping narrative, and when paired with one of the most dominant wins in survivor history, you have a really good season. Although the predictability at points bumps Palau down a couple ranks, it doesn't make it any less of a joy to watch. (Favorite players- James, Kobe, Tom)
14.) Blood vs. Water- What can I say about Blood vs. Water? It's just a really good season. Great cast, interesting twist, engaging gameplay, and a deserving winner. So what keeps it down here at number 13? I think the problem is that Blood vs. Water simply doesn't excel at any of these, all of the seasons above just do its job better. This season is really enjoyable and fun to watch, for some reason I just can't rank it any higher. (Favorite players- Hayden, Ciera, Tyson)
15.) Guatemala- I don't know why this season has the reputation of being boring, or forgettable. I've always enjoyed Guatemala as I believe it to be the last season to truly emphasize survival. The location is one of my favorites and the overall winner has one of the most unique wins this far. Although little to none of them have returned, I would love to see more of this cast back as I found nearly all of them to be very likeable. While very modest, I think that Guatemala is a hidden gem overshadowed by better seasons. (Favorite players- Gary, Judd, Rafe)
16.) Island of the Idols- I will forever be an apologist for this season. Island of the Idols gets a lot of unwarranted hate, so allow me to explain. The pre merge of IOTI is fantastic, the winner is one of my personal favorites in terms of gameplay, while fundamentally flawed, the island of the Idols itself leads to entertaining character moments, and the entire cast with one glaring exception is one of if not the best cast we've ever seen. But what just bogs this season down is merge episode and the controversies associated with it. Post merge Island of the Idols takes a very dark turn and left a very bad taste in my mouth episode after episode. I did however feel like the finale turned everything around into a very fun conclusion. Under any other circumstances this season would be ranked near the top of newbie seasons, but because of the glaring hole in IOTI I can't possibly place this any higher. (Favorite players- Kellee, Jamal, Janet)
17.) San Juan Del Sur- San Juan Del Sur is a less interesting Blood vs. Water, while the season is fundamentally the same, the twist itself just doesn't live up to the first time it was tried. With a couple major exceptions much of this cast is largely forgettable. The gameplay picks up here and there but not enough to keep me too engaged. Overall, San Juan Del Sur is just a muted down version of Blood vs. Water, which was already a muted down version of other, better seasons. (Favorite players- Keith, Natalie, Reed)
18.) Vanuatu- This season is never talked about very much, and it's easy to see why, but that doesn't mean that Vanuatu deserves to be lost in the sands of time. There are some phenomenal blindsides, gameplay that was revolutionary for its time, and one of the best underdog wins in the history of the show. This season has so many gems in its characters that I'm still shocked haven't been brought back. The one thing that holds Vanuatu back from being ranked any higher is simply that all of the seasons above simply do its job better in terms of story and characters. I would love to see this season talked about more. (Favorite players- Rory, Chris, LeAnn)
19.) Samoa- I feel very conflicted about a season like Samoa. On one hand, I think this cast is great, and the underdog victory is an incredible story. On the other hand the editing of the season is horrendous and one of the worst in the series. The main problems in Samoa hinge on the fact that the entire season comes from the perspective of one player, while that player is engaging and interesting, it shoves aside the rest of this very likeable cast in their own right in order to do so. Making Samoa very hot and cold in my eyes. (Favorite players- Dave, Jaison, Russell Swan)
20.) Edge of Extinction- While I enjoyed this season more than most, I can't rationally put it higher up on the list. Edge of extinction is a mess in editing, and story due to the theme and the winner, but that doesn't make the overall season less enjoyable. Although most of the cast is forgettable, the few gems in the cast coupled with the four returning players add a lot of merit to an otherwise mediocre season. The winners narrative, while subjectively the worst in the worst in the show somehow make Edge of Extinction one of the most unique seasons in the show, landing it here at number 19. (Favorite players- Victoria, Reem, Devens)
21.) Worlds Apart- Worlds apart is renowned for it's awful cast, poor winner, uncomfortable moments, and for the most part, these are all accurate. On a rewatch however, I found many redeemable aspects of this season. The best part for me, is the story. In the post merge watching the winner of this season time and time again foil the plans of their fellow cast mates was very enjoyable. Though it was predictable, the remaining members of the cast were so unlikable it just didn't matter. Worlds apart is like the opposite of Blood vs. Water where it tries to do many things it ends of not being good at any of them leading it to have such a negative connotation among fans. (Favorite players- Carolyn, Mike, Max)
22.) South Pacific- Many people rank this season near the bottom, and while I agree that South Pacific is not great, there are many redeeming qualities about it. Redemption island makes a return and is as uninteresting as ever, and two veterans make a return hogging all the screentime to show off their uninteresting and unlikable gameplay. Couple this with an uncomfortable religious overtone, and you have a bad season. But what lands South Pacific higher than the bottom is the cast which is largely likable upon a rewatch, and easy to root for. Unfortunately they are mostly overshadowed by their veteran counterparts but the winners story is fairly underrated and interesting to watch unfold. I would like to see this season talked about more in a positive light. (Favorite players- Cochran, Rick, Dawn)
23.) Micronesia- This is going to be the biggest hot take on the list. Before you bombard me with hate comments, let me explain. I did not enjoy watching Micronesia. For reasons I will attempt to explain, I just didn't. I think that the fans vs. favorites is very lopsided and leads to very predictable gameplay. I really enjoyed the train wreck that was the fans tribe, but post swap all of them started getting picked off in a boring manor. The favorites tribe started out very solid but post merge all of the true favorites were gone, and the ones that remained were very arrogant and unlikable. While the gameplay was some of the best in the series, when it happens in a predictable unlikable manor, it just leaves a bitter taste in your mouth after watching. This case isn't helped by in a twenty person cast, two were medically evacuated, and three basically quit the game. While I can see why everyone loves this season, I personally just did not enjoy watching Micronesia. (Favorite players- Joel, Aliza, Erik)
24.) Game Changers- An all star season that is widely disliked. Much of this is because of the inaccurate title, overabundance of advantages, and lackluster batch of returnees. With one big exception, the pre merge of this season is great with many big names in survivor unfortunately leaving early but in glorious fashion. The main problem is that Gamechangers looses it's momentum post merge with its remaining cast mostly being unlikable, boring, or unnoticeable, and becomes a chore to get to once the winner becomes too obvious. There are many episodes in which uncomfortable material is discussed, game breaking twists are introduced making this season a mixed bag of mostly bad moments. (Favorite players- Sarah, Tai, Zeke)
25.) Cook islands- Another very hot take, I honestly struggle to find good things to say about this season. Cook island's only redeeming qualities lie in the four standout characters it has, the uncomfortable tribe division, and narrative. Other than that it is a boring, uninteresting slog to get through. Besides like five people, all of this cast are just non entities who add nothing to the story. The tribe division was controversial, but was only in play for two episodes. The thing keeping Cook islands afloat for me is the story of the season. The Aitu four story arch is one of the best in the series leading to my personal favorite winner in the whole series. Though this is where many of the shows most iconic players started out, I just can't see why so many people put Cook Islands in their top 10s. (Favorite players- Yul, Penner, Cao Boi)
26.) Fiji- This season sucks. There isn't a lot going for it, generic location, unlikable cast, the most unbalanced theme to date, and controversies aplenty. Yet, if you look deeper into the season, there are qualities to love about it. While almost all of the cast were either underedited or just awful people, there are a few notable exceptions that I would love to see make a return. Though mean spirited, the contestants that were just bad people did make good TV and kept me interested, which is more than I can say for Cook Islands. The winners game is one of the most underrated in the series, and the amount of innovation in terms of gameplay is the most in shows history. (Favorite players- Earl, Yau Man, Alex)
27.) Caramoan- The second fans vs favorites season which is even worse than the first one. While the first fans tribe was interesting to watch, this fans tribe consisted of nobody's who had hardly watched the game before. The favorites tribe wasn't much better, with all of the tribe being hated by fans of the show with a couple exceptions. This alone is just a recipe for disaster, which indeed it was. The editing is all over the place, and while there are a few good moments, all that I remember of Caramoan is just the spiteful negative cloud hanging over everything that in the end resulted in one of the most predictable if not strategically winners to date. (Favorite players- Malcolm, Reynold, Cochran)
28.) Nicaragua- The first in what would be considered the "Dark ages" of survivor, and it's easy to see why. This really is the worst editing in any season of survivor, where storylines start and stop abruptly with little cohesion between episodes, and the cast is a exciting as a cardboard box. The tribe divisions by age was never going to pan out and it never did, and the medallion of power was just plain stupid. The winner is one of the most underwhelming in the series and strategy is almost non-existent, but not in a fun way like Gabon. The only redeeming qualities lie in that a couple castaways are fun to watch, however all of them get booted early merge leaving an awful season in their wake. The location is gross and overall this season is just a trudge to go through. (Favorite players- Marty, Jane, Dan)
29.) Ghost Island- Along with Nicaragua, the editing in this season is absolutely horrendous with about only three contestants getting any screen time at all. The winning narrative is dominant, but not in a way that is fun at all. There were blueprints for a good season here, but the decision to edit only three people killed any redeemable qualities Ghost Island had. This time around the cast was at least semi likable, the problem is that we never saw any of them. The Ghost Island twist itself was interesting in concept but just came across as stupid and hogged up precious screen time that could be spent fleshing out other characters. This whole season is like a mix of Nicaragua and Samoa but somehow the end result is worse than both of them. I hope the editing department learned their lesson on this season. (Favorite players- Stephanie, Jacob, Dom)
30.) One World- Every other season before has had members in the cast for the audience to root for. One World doesn't have a single one. Every single cast member in this season is spiteful, boring, or just plain stupid. The tribes are on one beach which was interesting in concept, but it didn't have a chance to shine because the worst cast in 40 seasons was playing on it. In terms or story, there is no story, the winner simply plays the most dominant game ever played with little competition. The editing is at least okay but if you don't want to spend any time with the contestants it doesn't really matter. One World is bad. (Favorite players- Leif, Sabrina, Tarzan)
31.) Redemple Temple- Redemption Island is the worst season of all time. Let's go down our checklist: Unlikable cast? Check. Bad editing? Check. Boring and predictable story? Check check and check. Redemption Island has one of the biggest steamrolls from any winner in survivor history against some of the most uninteresting and incompetent players the audience has ever seen. Much like Samoa and Ghost Island, much of the season comes from the perspective of one person and doesn't highlight the perspective of anyone else. I'm in the minority that doesn't absolutely detest the twist of Redemption Island, but it doesn't add anything to the game itself. I pray to God that this remains the worst season of all time. (Favorite players- Matt, Make, Steve)
Thank you for reading this list! Remember this is all my opinion and you are free to share yours below. I am currently trying to watch every season right now and I am halfway through Pearl Islands so I will probably edit that in later.

2020.09.17 20:14 noel_alam Met a Tinder match for the first time and it went superbbb

As a person who has anxiety and constantly gets zoned out between conversation, shifting from texting to real life interations is a struggle. I had been playing out the whole scene in my head, topics we will talk about everything. Basically overthinking it. Last week I decided enough is enough - just because a female thinks you are attractive doesnt mean she will forever. You have to take the next step and meetup while its still ripe or you'll lose it. I have been hinting to meetup over texts to which she replied postively but still didnt fix a date. Very normal its quite risky to meet a stranger online in a third world country so I stopped being pushy and started to give the welcoming comfortable vibes I did when we first started to chat. AND IT WORKED! Today she texted me to come over. But later changed her mind. After chatting her up for an hour or so she again agreed to meet up at our favourite coffee shop. AND MAN DID MY HEART STÀRT TO RACE. Rarely in my life do social interactions play out the way I want. But that was before I started following the seduction subreddit(not being extra you all are gems)
----First speech after Hi------
The first thing to say after Hi is the hardest. I was looking for a quirky pickup line that would make her smile. But rather went with an improve. I had bought condoms just incase if I got lucky. So what i did was drop the outer box infront of the underconstruction building I was standing. When walked up infront of me I was like Hi! You look nice. Wanna see something interesting? pointed at the condom packet I was analysing the history of this. What would a condom box be doing infront of an empty building. Hmm. She was like "damn. Tai to. Come to think if it empty rooms right. Perfect spot actually" From there we went on to talk about how easy it would be to grow a cult in these places. Yada yada.
----Rest of the date-----
The script that I had prepared in my mind all went down the drain. For the next 2 hours we talked about everything there was to talk about and it came so naturally. I dont know if her being a comfortable person to talk with had anything to do with this but we jumped from one thing to another like spiderman. I hinted on going to someplace more secluded but she didnt pick it up and that was that. I was fine with it. She is very direct in texts and I knew that if she is interested she would say it directly. No point insisting like a cry baby and ruining the vibe. I tried to keep the tone as much similar to my texting tone as I can so that I dont look like an imposter but also made sure it wasnt forced. I dropped her off making her smile one last time.
---To conclude---- Today was a complete win of a day. She texted back saying she loved our two hours together and I said we should do sudden meetups like this more often. To sum it up couldnt have done it without you guys honestly. All the blunder, motivation, mark manson references lead up to this. Couldn't be more grateful. Love yall

2020.09.16 18:29 Ninodonlord Ksrizka - My homebrew monsters for your table. (copy just in case)

Ksrizka

or: What counts is what's inside of you.
Pronounciation: ksrɪɪtskɑ - "ks-rits-kah"
Bottom line, upfront:
Ksrizka, or shell people, are shapechanging monsters from the Outside, a realm between the layers of reality. They are born from the Void that resides there and seek to reclaim existence for the Outside. I will include several statblocks for your perusal at the end of the post as well as some magic items.
0. An orcish tale
With a cry High King Grummshkarrn of the orc tribes embedded his axe into the skull of the intruder. How the female orc had been able to get the drop on him despite his sharp ears he didnt know. The knife in her hand, which had pierced his torso, however, made her intentions clear quite quickly. While Grummshkarrn began going over a list of chieftains he thought would be so cowardly they'd sent an assassin for him, the body of the assailant twitched. Grummshkarrns hand shot to the dagger at his hip while he took a step back out of caution. His axe had split the skull cleanly, he was sure of it. He had felt the bone splinter under his might.
With unexpected speed the face of the body split in two, a thin line appearing along its center, travelling along the orcs neck and below her clothing. The two halves of the body peeled back, starting from the top, revealing pulsating flesh beneath. Inside Grummshkarrn saw movement until he spotted an eye peeking out from the inside. With a sickening tearing sound the body split open further, and something burst forth from inside. Covered in blood, Grummshkarrn could only make out rough features of the creature, but what he could see terrified him. The creature was roughly humanoid in shape, but its proportions seemed off in a way he couldnt quite pin down. With quick feet the shape ran towards the exit of the tent. Grummshkarrn shuddered, as though he had been paralyzed by the horrific wrongness of the creature before him and just broken free from it. He picked up his axe and yelled for his guards to take care of the shell of a body in his tent. He needed to talk to one of his shamans and then he needed a drink to forget.

1. Where the Ksrizka are from
To give you some inspiration on how you might use the Ksrizka in your campaign, ill quicky write about their story in my world, Noria. Feel free to use it or not, you can even skip it if you are not interested in the fluff.
1.0 On the fabric of reality.
No matter how your world may have been created, there likely was a time before it. In the time before Noria, there was only the Outside, the void between worlds. When Tai'San, the first god of the orcs, had gained enough power he tore the fabric of the Outside from the Mother, the entity that takes up the outside, and created the world. Ever since then, the Mother seeks to reclaim what she considers to be rightfully hers and the Ksrizka are just one of her many children.
1.1 The Ksrizka incursion
The first Ksrizka incursion is what scholars of the old world of Noria classify as the first incident, where Ksrizka cultists emerged from hiding and asumed control of the Capital of Osylana. However, this was only the culmination of the actual first incursion. At the time they had already assumed control of the country from the shadows, were in control of the major cities. They had sabotaged the trade and the military of the country and started to incite riots. The only position they had not yet undermined was the King himself. With their final coup, they toppled the regime and started cleansing the land of all life in preparation for the doomsday.
1.2 Rombalions revenge
After Osylana had been toppled, the surrounding nations realised the danger they were in. Fortunately, while the Mother had sent her children into the world to destroy it, Tai'San was hard at work preserving it. As the father of elves and orcs, he sent visions to the elf Rombalion about the impending doom of the world and showed him the enemy he would be fighting. Rombalion assembled a force of orcs under his command and took control of the capital. However, as he quickly learned, fighting an enemy who could be anywhere and anyone was a doomed endeavor.
Rombalion persevered and eventually found ways of combating this invisible enemy. He and his orc crafted were given magic items to aid them and after much struggle, was able to uncover the majority of the cult/plot and stop the doomsday. After it was done though, he quickly realised that he had been changed by the ordeal. The years of constant danger had turned him paranoid and he no longer fit in with his followers, much less with the other elves at home. Rombalion became a hermit, and after years in exile would find his doom. Remnant forces of the cult of the Ksrizka found him, and alone with no one to watch his back, Rombalion fell in battle against his already vanquished enemy.
1.3 The aftermath
Rombalions sacrifice was not in vain however. He crippled the conspiracy and the cult around it so severely, that Osylana was the only country that fell to their machinations. The cult disbanded and the doomsday was prevented. Now, Ksrizka are a rare breed. They hide in the populace, intent on just getting by. Some of the Ksrizka still seek to complete the mission they were born for, but most are disillusioned by their defeat. But who knows? Maybe some day, they could reunite and become a real threat to the world again.
2. Ksrizka biology and abilities
2.1 Appearance and Abilities
The biggest strength the Ksrizka possess is their ability to blend in: They can appear like any bipedal humanoid race from the outside and sound and smell like them too. They are deceptively good liars and actors from birth. Imitation is like breathing to them.
If you dig a little deeper though, literally that is, their true nature is revealed. Ksrizka are layered. They are, as one of my players once put it, like onions. Cut a layer away and another appears. These layers are 1-2 inches thick on average, but obviously vary between race and place on the body. The deeper you get, the thinner the layers get. An average sized Ksrizka has three or four of those layers before the "core", the true body of the Ksrizka, which is about the size of a newborn, appears.
Ksrizka have some subconscious psychic abilities, which they dont actively control but make them appear more charismatic and persuasive to the commonfolk. Ksrizka can actively choose to abandon one or more of their layers if desired. During this, they emit a psychic scream which paralyses everyone in a radius around them.
Apart from these abilities, Ksrizka are remarkably unspectacular in their abilities. Simply put, over time they can learn all things a normal person could, but nothing more.
2.2 Birth, growth and death
Ksrizka are a strange breed in general. Their birth is the best example for this: To bring a new Ksrizka into the world, three of them need to meet and undergo a specific ritual:
Together, they fill a cauldron with a third of their blood, which puts them in a severely weakened state. To this they add dust from apatite or whitlockite (any mineral containing both calcium and phosphate), essence of the void (a rare essence from their creator) and any ingredient from a innately magical creature (such as dragons or unicorns). If need be, the dust can also be from bone ash. The three Ksrizka then take turns stirring the cauldron for 3 days each, during which they infuse the mixture with some of their memories.
After the ritual is complete, the new Ksrizka has formed in the brew and can be taken out of the mixture. The remaining mixture is rendered unusable and is discarded. A mature Ksrizka needs to wait at least two months before it can undergo another ritual to recuperate from the loss of blood.
The new Ksrizka is in a helpless state for a fortnight after the ritual, during which it learns to use its abilities. Its original form, which Ksrizka can not change, is based on the memories it received from their "parents" and resembles the most common humanoid race in their infant form.
After the fortnight has passed, the newborn Ksrizka is "grown up" in the sense that it has full control over its abilities and can partake in the birth ritual. They also can now start growing new layers. These layers can look exactly as the Ksrizka intends them to. Once grown, they can look exactly as any person they saw or can imagine. Once grown, their appearance stays the same until they grow a new one above it or discard it.
For the actual growing the Ksrizka needs several other things: Primarily food and shelter. A Ksrizka can start growing a new shell around the existant ones at will, but needs to be well fed and protected. Once the process is started, the Ksrizka seeks a quiet space and pupates in a way. They grow a cocoon of skin first, and then sleep for a week, while the rest of the new layer grows beneath it. During this time a Ksrizka can not eat or defend itself and if it was not well nourished before it will starve to death due to the immense need for calories during growth.
Outside of growth phases, a Ksrizka needs roughly the same food as any other race would. This rule is broken however for larger Ksrizka. While nothing prevents a Ksrizka to keep adding layers upon layers, their caloric needs rise exponentially the larger they get. Myths tell stories of Ksrizka as large as giants, but generally they dont exceed the size of your common trolls et cetera without a very good reason to do so.
Theoretically, Ksrizka are immortal. They dont age, so as long as they are not killed, die to disease or starvation, they can and will stick around.
2.3 Limits and weaknesses
The need for food is also the first weakness of Ksrizka. If they do go for a larger form, it becomes increasingly difficult to sustain themselves. And the more food you need, the harder it gets to avoid detection. The biggest strength of the Ksrizka is flying under the radar, so most stick to medium size.
Another limit of the Ksrizka is information. They need to spend time in a community to learn all the unwritten and written rules. If they are new in town and their "parents" did not impart them with a memory of common etiquette to the region they are in, they will draw suspicion to themselves. Similarily to this, infiltrating a tight-knit group is difficult without explicit knowledge of their inner workings. A Ksrizka working undercover plays a dangerous game of cat and mouse with those around them.
Finally, their biggest weakness is in the shells themselves. While they heal like normal flesh would, if they take too much damage at once, a Ksrizka can be forced to discard their top layer. And the moulting process leaves them weak and defenseless. If something can withstand their psychic scream and act during this time, they can be killed with a swift and precise strike.
3. Inclusion in a campaign
Now that you have a rough idea on how Ksrizka work, lets talk about why you are here.
Why and How (to include Ksrizka in your game):
Why
Given the secretive nature of Ksrizka, i've found that they add a nice element of suspense and intrigue to your games. Depending on how much you go into moulting and growing, they can also add some fun horror as well.
The Ksrizka, while unintentionally yet strangely fitting, can be molded to fit your campaign and what you need for it. They can be purely evil cultist/monsters, the perfect infiltrating saboteurs to challenge your political campaign, a group or race of shadowy neutral beings, fighting for survival, striking ends with who they can for your stealth/crime game, or even just a nice twist in an otherwise normal fight in your meatgrinder. I hope i have sold you a bit on adding Ksrizka to your roster of monsters and you will enjoy them as i did in the past.
How
Because of their hidden nature, Ksrizka are easily implemented into any campaign, but there are several questions you should answer when doing so. Since i want to keep this post applicable to all your campaigns, i will leave answering them to you and simply pose the most common and important questions. You know your campaign best, so working through them should hopefully enable you to include these "onion-bastards" (as my brother once called them) into it.
Where did they come from? How long have they been in the world? If for long, how much is known about them? Does the general populace know about their existence? If they are known, how do communities protect themselves from infiltration? Are there groups that hunt them?
Do they plan to end the world? If yes, how far along are they? How can they be found and stopped? If no, what is their goal? Are they evil by nature or by their culture? Are they evil at all? How do they clash with the party? Are they potential allies even?
How common are they? Do they have their own settlements? How homogeneously are they spread over the world? How many are there in general?
4. Statblocks and such
I've included two statblocks for inspiration how Ksrizka may be statted. One important thing to keep in mind: I dont run my games using 5E, so please take this with a grain of salt and be prepared to change it on the fly. To get specific statblocks, feel free to just take one from a humanoid in the MM and slap the Ksrizka specific abilities on it. Keep in mind, that the Moult ability may become exponentially more dangerous if the party faces multiple Ksrizka, so use with care.
These stat blocks were modified after the Bandit captain (Basic Rules, pg. 397) and the Frost Giant (Basic Rules, pg. 128) as a standard and one extreme example. Finally, i would recommend to prepare at least one layer below the top one as well. I have deliberately chosen to keep most of the stats the same, so that until revealed, the stats wont give the Ksrizka away either.
4.1 Monster and...
Medium sized Ksrizka
Medium abberation, any alignment
Armor Class 15 (scale mail) Hit Points 65 (10d8+20) Speed 30 ft.
STRDEXCONINTWISCHA16 (+3)12 (+1)14 (+2)14 (+2)11 (+0)16 (+3)
Saving Throws Str +5, Con +4, Wis +2
Skills Deception +5, Perception +2, Persusasion +5
Senses passive Perception 12
Languages Any two
Challenge 4 (1100 XP)
Ability: Moult. As an action, or as a reaction after dropping to less or equal than 10 hit points, the Ksrizka may decide to moult and discard one or more layers of itself. All non-Ksrizka creatures within a radius of 50 feet must succeed on a DC 15 Wisdom Saving throw or become incapacitated for 3 turns. While incapacitated in this way the creatures speed is reduced to zero. The creature can repeat the saving throw at the end of each of its turns, ending the condition on a success. The Ksrizka becomes incapacitated and its speed is reduced to zero until the end of the next two turns, while it claws itself out of its shell. During this time, it gains the benefits of 3/4 cover against ranged attacks but can still be hit normally by melee attacks.
Ability: Grow (once every 2 weeks). The Ksrizka grows a larger shell around itself. Once started this process takes one week to complete. During the transformation it is unconscious. It may choose any larger humanoid creature than its previous form that it has seen before (same or larger size) and choose any form that creature may have. The Ksrizka now looks identical to the chosen creature on surface but retains its previous abilities. Due to the new body it has disadvantage on Strength, Dexterity and Constitution Ability Checks and Saving Throws for one week after the growth is complete.
Actions
Multiattack. The Ksrizka makes three melee attacks: two with its scimitar and one with its dagger. Or the Ksrizka makes two ranged attacks with its daggers.
Scimitar. Melee Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft., one target. Hit: 6 (1d6 + 3) slashing damage.
Dagger. Melee or Ranged Weapon Attack: +5 to hit, reach 5 ft. or range 20/60 ft., one target. Hit: 5 (1d4 + 3) piercing damage.
Reactions
Parry. The Ksrizka adds 2 to its AC against one melee attack that would hit it. To do so, the Ksrizka must see the attacker and be wielding a melee weapon.

Huge sized Ksrizka
Huge abberation, any alignment
Armor Class 15 (natural armor) Hit Points 138 (12d12 + 60) Speed 40 ft.
STRDEXCONINTWISCHA23 (+6)9 (-1)21 (+5)14 (+2)11 (+0)16 (+3)

Challenge 9 (5000 XP)
The Ksrizka makes two greataxe attacks.
Greataxe. Melee Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, reach 10 ft., one target. Hit: 25 (3d12 + 6) slashing damage.
Rock. Ranged Weapon Attack: +9 to hit, range 60/240 ft., one target. Hit: 28 (4d10 + 6) bludgeoning damage.
4.2 Artifacts to fight them with
As you can see, Ksrizka are not intended to be cannonfodder. The larger ones are especially dangerous and considering the layers waiting below, they are definitely a threat. So what do people do about threats in a fantasy world? Make some artifacts. These are mine, feel free to use or replace as you see fit.
Rombalions Eyepatch is made from steel, the outside is decorated with a gold leaf ornament of a butterfly and the inside is covered with overlapping fine runes. When worn those runes shine in a dim white. Whenever the wearer looks at a Ksrizka, the runes on the inside where their body would appear in the wearers vision without the Eyepatch turn red, no matter the form the monster takes or how they disguise themselves. The Eyepatch only works on living Ksrizka or the remains of a shell immediately after moulting. It does not show Ksrizka who are hidden by magic nor anything worn by them.
Note: This artifact is obviously quite strong as it bypasses the entire intrigue. I highly recommend not giving it out right away. Only use it if you want your players to have an effective means of revealing the Ksrizka. One way i used it was giving it to the players when they were about to enter and stay in a city in which the Ksrizka have already nested themselves deeply into the power structures. That way, even though the party had means of finding the Ksrizka, they needed to find solid proof, before they could act on their knowledge.
The shelldagges were worn by the fighters of Rombalions group. They appear to be finely crafted and ornamental daggers of ancient age, but are still quite sharp. When examined by appropriate means, it is revealed, that the daggers are not magical, but their hilts are.
When wielded against a Ksrizka, the damage of the daggers becomes magical, their critical range increases to 19 and 20 and critical hits deal thrice the normal damage instead of twice. The daggers otherwise have the stats of normal daggers. Ksrizka have an instinctive fear of the daggers. They feel the threat. Outside of combat, any Ksrizka who sees the daggers immediately assumes the wielder to be hostile and must then succeed on a Wis save against the wielders passive insight. On a failure, the wielder notices a fearful or hateful expression of the Ksrizka. On a success, the Ksrizka becomes immune to the fear inducing aura of the daggers for 24h.
Bonejaw was an amulet, which Rombalions orc priest fashioned out of the bones of defeated Ksrizka. It is a simple array of jaw bones of varying sizes, tied together with leather string to create a spiral of roughly 4 inches diameter. The wearer of the amulet may expend one of its 7 charges to automatically succeed a save against the psychic scream during moulting. The amulet regains 1d4 charges at dawn.
These 12 shards of green gemstone are collectively known as Grivins doom. They are of various shape and sizes but none are smaller than a finger and none are bigger than a fist. Some parts of the gemstones are covered with ornaments, while other sides are smooth to the touch. If a Ksrizka is nearby, the gemstones heat up to a degree that is painful to touch with bare skin but not hot enough to cause damage.
The stones are the shattered remains of the centerpiece of the crown of Osylana. After the coup of the Ksrizka, the last King, young Grivin was slain and his crown was shattered. In his dying moments, Grivins hatred of the conspirators latched onto the centerpiece of his crown and still remains, milennia later. If someone found all 12 pieces, they could remake the crown of Osylana. Whoever wears the crown may use a bonus action to gain advantage against weapon or spell attacks against Ksrizka for one minute. The crown recovers this power after a 3 long rests.
Even though the Tongue of a Ksrizka is not the source of its psychic ability, it can still be used to mimic it. If you can procure the tongue of a freshly deceased Ksrizka (the real body), and know the right preparative measures, you can turn it into a one use item. Any willing creature of at least INT 4 may put the tongue in their mouth as an action and let out the famous Ksrizka scream. Doing so destroys the tongue, which dissolves into an ethereal nothingness (which tastes like a cool chill grazing the tongue of the PC). Any creature within a 50 ft. radius, excluding Ksrizka, must succeed on a DC 13 Wisdom Saving throw or become incapacitated for two turns. The user of the item is excluded from this save.
5. TBC???
I was originally intending to also make an encounter to introduce both the Ksrizka and the artifacts to fight them, but as this post has grown in size beyond my expectations, i feel its best to postpone that and do it in a seperate post. Don't quote me on a "release date" though ;)
6. Thanks to
@ canuckerrant, who "doesnt really do the reddit thing" and wants me to link his twitter. They helped me out quite a bit with the flavour text above.
Also thanks to DraggonFlyer, RockBobster and Mister_F1zz3r for their help with the stats and the post in general. Without them this would be way less worthy of anyones time.
Finally, thanks to you for reading this and making it all the way here.
7. Post Scriptum
You are free to use this post for your campaign. Should you want to include it elsewhere on the internet, offline, in a book, or share it in anyway outside of linking to this, please contact me via reddit or discord Ninodonlord/#8372 beforehand to get my ok.
Also sorry for any typos you come across. This was not tested for balance in 5E since i play a different system and you can and should adapt it to better fit your players and campaign.
You can also check out my other stuff at [The complete Nino], if you'd like to do so :)

2020.09.16 00:11 bella_vampira_97 mysterious unidentified woman in an robbery-Homicide case

(Sorry for the error on the title, I was typing in a hurry) I write this post hoping it'll catch attention of someone that can help identify the victim. I've tried my best but I can't find any useful picture related to the victim, the information I've found and posted here is all I have
Hi everyone, finally I decide to write down something because it's been stucked in my head for almost one month.
He said that few days later he came back to cover her more thoroughly because "some strange phenomena" happened to him.
Initially I didn't know any information about her range of age, so I think there're some hypotheses about the ID of the woman:
1- She could be a runaway long time ago, she may have estranged from her family for many years so when she went missing they didn't know.
2- All her family members are dead and she was currently a single person. She may have been on her way for some small business.
3- The only person that she had (could be her husband, boyfriend, children, sibling,...) may have been in jail or juvenile detention, and she might be on the way to visit them at the time of the murder! (This may explain why nobody reported her missing).
In my country there's no database of DNA informations like Namus, 23andme, ancestry,.. so it's much more difficult. There're still many things I want to write but it's late, I'd like to add something later on.
Here is the map of important places in the case: https://www.google.com/maps/diC%E1%BA%A7u+B%E1%BB%93ng+S%C6%A1n+M%E1%BB%9Bi,+B%E1%BB%93ng+S%C6%A1n,+Ho%C3%A0i+Nh%C6%A1n,+B%C3%ACnh+%C4%90%E1%BB%8Bnh,+Vi%E1%BB%87t+Nam/Dieu+Tri,+Th%C3%B4n+Giang+Nam,+B%C3%ACnh+%C4%90%E1%BB%8Bnh,+Vi%E1%BB%87t+Nam/Th%E1%BB%8B+x%C3%A3+S%C3%B4ng+C%E1%BA%A7u,+Ph%C3%BA+Y%C3%AAn,+Vi%E1%BB%87t+Nam/%C4%90T644,+S%C3%B4ng+C%E1%BA%A7u,+Ph%C3%BA+Y%C3%AAn,+Vi%E1%BB%87t+Nam/Nha+Trang,+Kh%C3%A1nh+H%C3%B2a,+Vi%E1%BB%87t+Nam/@13.4156498,108.8947592,8.52z/data=!4m32!4m31!1m5!1m1!1s0x3168cffabcf4c7b5:0x371ff54b1699db9e!2m2!1d109.0085671!2d14.4154055!1m5!1m1!1s0x316f148f36aafd53:0xa842973865d5644f!2m2!1d109.1553021!2d13.8101029!1m5!1m1!1s0x316f9f3feb73545b:0xa487d74a1cc56499!2m2!1d109.1991932!2d13.5809065!1m5!1m1!1s0x316fa7b2b10c8de3:0x6ef5bc1894ab88d0!2m2!1d109.1124639!2d13.5320764!1m5!1m1!1s0x3170677811cc886f:0x5c4bbc0aa81edcb9!2m2!1d109.1967488!2d12.2387911!3e0
I explain:
For the vietnameses: if you know a woman who vanished in August 2018, please contact the police department of Phu Yen province. Your information may help identify the victim.
Sorry for my english, I'm not native english speaker.

Edit 1: after considering all the informations I got, I strongly believe that she was on her way to visit somebody in the prison/detention since she seemed not rich but may have prepared an amount of money for her trip. She may have been not well-connected with society, so she didn't consider the fact that hitchhiking is much more risky than catching a bus, naively believed that all the people are nice. I would cry right away if it was true.

Update 1 (23/9/2020): I've searched for different ways to go from Bong Son (where the victim hitchhiked) to Nha Trang (where the victim wanted to arrive), I see that Bong Son train station is only 3.7km of distance from where she stood, and the ticket price is only slightly higher than the cash she paid the killer for the ride (about 8$).

Update 2 (8/10/2020): The court has officially cancelled the first instance judgment, returned the file to re-investigate the case because of many unclear details and contradiction points. They state that during the investigation there're many serious "unrecoverable" mistakes in the interrogation and collection procedure. Plus, they still have doubt about the way the victim was killed (the 2 killers said they've strangled the victim but the autopsy report declares the manner of death is severe trauma in neck spine), along with the real death time (autopsy determined the post-mortem interval is 7 days, which doesn't coincide with the confession of Sinh).

The new informations:

Update 3 (16/10/2020): Possible match. I 've been searching in several groups of missing persons and recently found a possible match of the unidentified victim. 1 month ago a 20-years-old girl posted in a couple of groups about her missing mother. She said her mother was born in 1974 (which is fit the age interval of the victim), was supposed to be working in Bim Son (Thanh Hoa province), while the girl lives in Nghe An province which is 180 km circa from where her mother worked. Eventhough the distance is not too long, her mother came home only once per year and they didn't call each other often (sometime only once per month). Since August 2018 the girl hasn't heard from her mother anymore, the mother never contacts her again. Her mother disappeared without a trace so she is very worried about her mother safety. It's unknown if the girl has reported the disappearance of her mother.

I have a strong feeling about this clue since there're many points which are matched the unidentified woman:
The map that shows the distance between the place the missing mother work and the place where the unidentified victim hitchhiked:

In any case, I trying to contact the girl and suggest her contacting the police department which is investigating the murder case of 2018. I just find it hardly to do because of course she 's hoping she mother is still alive, suggesting a lead from a murder case makes me feel I'm impolite. Btw I 'll still do it within tomorrow, I'm so thrilling.
Update: this woman is possibly ruled out. The girl says she doesn't think the unidentified woman could be her mother, apparently I doubt she would call the police for a verification.

2020.09.15 18:02 Ninodonlord Ksrizka - My homebrew monsters for your table.

Ksrizka

or: What counts is what's inside of you.

Also thanks to DraggonFlyer, RockBobster and Mister_F1zz3r for their help with the stats and the post in general, as well as InfinityCircuit for his idea input for fun artifacts.
